Re: upper door bushing..door removal?

It can be done with the door in place. It just needs to be supported. The right tools make it easier.

A small grinder to remove the rivet heads. I've got a dremel and a rotozip with grinder attachment. And something to drive the rivets out like a string rod with a short 90 degree bend near the end. There's one for sale on Topdown-solutions but you can make one. Take a look at the pic. It's clear what you need.

One from the top- one from the bottom. You can do it easier with the fender off I think...

Re: upper door bushing..door removal?

It can be done with minimal difficulty with the door on if you use a dremmel and a cherry picker to support the door. Just did my passenger door this last weekend.

I used an engine cherry picker with some straps around the door. Once the upper pins are removed I pulled the lower hinge pin out. At this point you can swing the door out away from the car a few inches. This will give you enough clearance to get the old bushings out. Once I had them out I put the new ones in and let the red thread locker dry while I replaced the lower pin. Just make sure you DO NOT try and force the new bushings into the holes. If you do, the new upper pins will not fit and you've just ruined the bushing. I learned this the hard way. What I did to fix the problem was to use a sanding drum on my dremmel to open the holes up a bit. Once I did that they slid in without any problems.

I had the straps wrap around the door right around where the middle bolt on the arm rest would be. That was pretty close to the center of gravity of the door so you can still have control over the door.
