Swap? The should be plug-and-play. You don't need to replace the entire arm, just the blades.
FWIW, if you have "wet" arms, the beam type blades may keep the windshield from getting a good spray pattern across the glass.
Edit: The Rain-X Latitudes may not clear the back edge of the hood. I have frame-type Anco blades and they come pretty close to the edge of the hood.

AFAIK, those new Bosch wiper blades (whatever they're called, but they're like $25 a side), still don't have an adaptor for our older pin type attachments. I had a set of Trico blades that were similar (Innovisions, I think, they were $15 per side), and I STRONGLY advise against those. I split 2 on the driver's side in less than a year, WITHOUT snow. I currently use some super-cheapos that cost me $4 per side and wipe a TON better than those things.

Same here, I had the expensive molded rubber Trico's on my '02, and they wouldn't properly stay on the car even with the correct adapter, much less do a good job of wiping the windshield. I'm currently using the expensive Rain-X equivalents, which (assuming they have the correct bayonet style pin adapters) should work great on a third gen since the windshield is completely flat.

Re: upgrade wiper arm third gen
I want to change the arms to the umbrella style hook on the end instead of the pin type. I have had so many come loose from the pin and dont want to scratch my new windshield I just had installed 2 days ago. So has anyone went from pin to j hook arms yet.

If your wipers have come loose, you installed them wrong. I'm amazed at the amount of people that incorrectly install wipers and apply rainx/aquapel/rainshield.
Yes people have swapped. The wiper arms are two piece. The end piece with the pin mount uses a single rivet to hold it to the base. Find some J hook arms at the junkyard and drill out the factory rivet and rivet the 'new' ones to your factory bases. I can't remember which side has the bend in it but it's fairly simple to duplicate with a torch or something.
FWIW, even with the J hook mount I rock the Bosch Excel wiper blade + rain x and have excellent visibility. Excels can be used on pin style mounts as well.
