Hit and run...

Well last night as I was walking out of Bw3's, I noticed someone had so kindly destroyed my mirror, and pass. side door, and then left the parking lot while i was inside....

(sorry for the bad quality pic)

but anyways....

does anyone know where i could find a replacement door, get it fixed for cheap, or anything else i could do...?

My cars an 85 trans am, all original, 305 V8, the artic white color i believe it is...

the damage is 95% only on the pass. door, mainly being the cracked mirror.

the window and window motor somehow still are fine, as well as the door opening/closing itself.

If anyone has any ideas, suggestions, comments, etc, i would appreciate it....

Im a broke high school kid, i dont exactly have a ton of money to fix it, but i'm open to any ideas...

thanks guys

Ah im sorry about that man.People this day in age are awful.I would say go to a junkyard and find a door.Doesnt have to be white,it can always be painted! Same for the mirror. Or look at the classifieds on here for parted out cars. Or craigslist as well

I would see if the place has a security camera that may have caught the jerk that did that to your car..

Re: Hit and run...

Im new here, i dont know how to multi-quote, but haha anyways,

#1 I work at Mcdonalds, so im making Ohio's minimum, high $7.90 or something like that i believe. I work waaay too much for being in high school, but money isnt really an issue.

#2. I found doors online, most camaro, so they have the manual windows, im looking for a true firebird/transam one with power windows that can be hooked back up...

#3 Yeah, my grandpa was a mechanic for 40 years, he said the mirror would be easy to unbolt/replace, but the door would have to be hammered out and leveled off with Bondo.
He just suggested another door as well.

I think im just going to end up buying a completely new door, and mirror, i guess its just a matter of finding the right one.

Does anyone know how much it would cost to paint a door like this...? I probably sound like a total newbie-idiot haha but ive only had this car for a few months, im only 17, im trying to take as best care of it as i can.....learn the "ways" of the 3rdgen community.

Thanks!

People have no respect for the property of others. They could have left the insurance on the windshield if they didn't want to face you. I hope someone close to you has a spare door they are willing to part with.Did you have full coverage? If so that would pay for your door. Best wishes on getting it back together.

I dont have collision insurance on this car, so im not sure.

When the insurance was transferred from my Accord to this car, im not exactly sure what happened, i just have base insurance.

And maybe its just me but i dont want to file a claim, because that will make my rates go up, and being a 17 year old kid with a v8 car, i feel like they will skyrocket.

but who knows, maybe im wrong, i dont know too much about the whole insurance policy thing, im going to talk to my parents about it today.

Re: Hit and run...

It's a good thing they didn't hit the fender too. They came really close.

A door can be used from a Camaro, or Firebird, you just need one with a power window. You can use your current door panel too, so that's not an issue.

Re: Hit and run...

Erie Insurance Group, I found out i have insurance where it covers it if i hit someone else, but i dont have collision insurance, due to the fact that it would be illogical to pay hundreds of dollars to protect a car that is worth less than 4 grand....

I'm pretty sure im just going to buy another door, from what ive seen, they dont cost too much...

Re: Hit and run...

you can swap EVERYTHING from your door to the new one, regardles if the "new" one is a power or manual door all you have to do is grind off the poprivits and redo them in the correct holes, one set of holes is for manual the other for power, the holes for the GFX can be drilled as well and then rebolted on. idk if their is a picknpull near you but you can cheack, they usually have some thirgens in there yard atleast the one by me, i think a door is like 50 or so bucks at the one by me too

Re: Hit and run...

Ugh, I hate seeing that.
People these days just will not accept responsibility for their actions.

Something similar happened to mine a few years back, it was Christmas Eve and I had to run to Costco first thing in the morning. I was in there, maybe 15 minutes tops. Was walking back to the car, and I noticed something right under the fuel door. As I got closer I noticed it was a nice big dent. Someone had somehow backed right into it and then just left.

Guess they figured it wasn't their problem.

Re: Hit and run...

Sorry to see that. As already stated people can be and are uncaring at times.
I know some times you cant but I will park in a spot that is the farthest from the store etc. and that I think is safe.I have even moved shopping carts that are close away from it "but" I have walked out to my car that was in a spot with no cars near it just to find a car or truck parked right next to it. Man how I have wanted to wait there until they came back just to explain why I park so far out is to get "away" from other cars.

Re: Hit and run...

I'm the same way. I park the furthest I can from other cars. If it'll keep idiots from backing up into my trans am, I don't mind the walk. And for some reason, I don't mind dings and little dents in my fenders or doors. Perhaps because I know they are replaceable parts. Every new ding on my rear quarter panels though just pisses me off, I can't shrug it off easily like damaged fenders or doors.

Sorry to hear about your car getting damaged slim, luckily its an easy fix. Could've been worse.

Re: Hit and run...

It would be nice to be able to just go to pick and pull for a new door, etc. but that option is made extremely complicated with new paint. Its a hole different world after that especially when its your DD.

Re: Hit and run...

Ugh that **** pisses me off. What scum bag hits cars and runs. Dude pulled out and hit my 88 iroc once. Broke my steering and wrecked my fender. He backed up and took off and there was nothing I could do cause the car wouldn't steer.

Another time I was rear ended in my dads Mazda. They backed up and just took off. My trunk was crushed into my tires, couldn't chase him.

Not too long ago my truck got rear ended at a stop sign. They backed up and took off. I just laughed cause I saw their bumper hanging off and coolant spilling. My truck was the only one that wasn't damaged from a hit and run. I hate people. Man up.

Re: Hit and run...

Make sure you get a police report and have them check if there are cameras as mentioned.

I dont' know if I would mess with trying to fix the door. It might of bent some of the inner structure. Check local salvage yard or craigslist as mentioned. You can always move your accessories to the new door if you need to. That should get you functional the quickest.

For you smaller stuff/accessories stuff you can try ebay also.

I've had that happen to me once in parking lot. It's sad how many people have crap morals.
