Firebird Tail Lights

Are there variations in fitment of between different years of thrid gen firebirds? I found a set of grid style trans am tail lights from an 85-89 (owner doesnt know exact year) but lists them to fit more years. Any help would be great. Thanks

all 3rd gen bird lights will install on any 3rd gen bird. the wiring harness is different between years, so you will have to swap the harness or do some rewiring/changing some sockets depending on what you currently have

Im switching from stock 82 style housings to grid style TA housings. Is there anywhere to buy a harness or would it beeasier to just splice the one i have? If its easier to work with what i have what needs to be done? Thanks

you might not need a harness, see if your bulbs fit in the grid housing. your stock lights didnt have yellows right?

Stock 82's will be the same Brake/Turn/Light wise, no need to rewire

Re: Firebird Tail Lights

Thanks. I kind of thought it looked the same (except the colors used in the housing) but wasnt sure if the bulbs went in the same. Now i just need to find a decent center piece that goes with the tail lights. The stock one will look aweful with the new housings. The later center pieces seem far easier to find w/o the mounting tabs broken off. My dad and i bought a few off ebay which were pictured and listed as unbroken only to get broken pieces. Buying parts for these cars isnt always easy. I nearly died of laughter when i saw what hawks and a few other sellers wanted for the exact same housings i just bought. Do poeple really pay hundreds for these things?

Re: Firebird Tail Lights

Hey guys, sorry to keep this going but i have one more quick question. I may also have a lead on some 91-92 GTA lights. I know the yellow section bulb sockets are smaller and was wondering what size they are and where i could purchase them. Also, would anything else need to be changed or is that it? Thanks

If I had to guess (given that you're saying that they're smaller than other lights), I would think the yellow sections would have 194 bulbs in them. If it's a standard socket (and not a weird one made just to fit 91-92 T/A taillights), it's probably the same one that is used for the side markers on our cars. I'm pretty sure that the smaller bulbs on the outer sections of the taillights on my '02 are 194's, so I wouldn't be surprised if it was a carryover from the previous generation.
