found a Trans am GTA

Before I call, what do you guys think about the rot on the quarter panel? thinking about passing on it, anyone buy a thirdgen with similar damage? I don't understand the newish paint and then the rust on the back? Maybe buy it and use it for parts for my GTA project?

Very mild & easily repairable. Possibly nothing more than surface rust to sand & prime. I don't have the Superman vision of lonesomeloser, but I don't see any rust through spots.

I'd be more concerned about the floorpans & what I can't see than that piddly little quarter panel spot.

What concerns me is the dark, suspicious spot above the bumper cover. Granted, I don't see daylight through it, but it looks brittle to me. Anyway, the OP needs to go inspect the whole car.

Re: found a Trans am GTA

it does look to me that there is a hole just above the bumper cover. thats a weird spot for that kind of rust/rot. Without getting into the car and looking closer its hard to say if its a disaster or somthing a bit less.

Its fixable, if its just that part of the quarter panel, but if its rotted down and through the sparetire well and out the floor, its more of a problem. It could also be a sign of a bad repair from previous crash damage.

Re: found a Trans am GTA

That's definitely not surface rust.

Price out a new quarter panel and consider how much it will cost to have it installed properly, and consider the price of the car and it's options before making a decision. I'd guess that the spare tire well is probably rotted through as well.

Re: found a Trans am GTA

Well I called and left a message, haven't got a call back yet, maybe the trans am GTA isn't his? Kind of weird a storage lot with 50's, a 70's monte carlo, 2 80's ford trucks, and that GTA

Re: found a Trans am GTA

**UPDATE** Everyone see the white rusty monte carlo in the back?? Well I was scrolling through craigslist, and check out a ad for a car and notice that monte in the back!!!! It says he has other cars for sale so I will try to call again. Bad news is it says leave a message. I would rather call the guy and speak to him. Oh well we will see how it works out. Same number too!
