Front Bumper Modification

Well guys I did an engine swap on my bird after I wrecked her. Had to get a new front bumper so I decided to do a little modification. Instead of the plain stock look I added an old circle track trick to let more air into the motor. What you guys think?? (Btw I was one pop rivet short I have to get one more for it but tell me what you think)

Well....it's certainly different

Let us know if there's any noticeable difference in underhood temperatures or performance of any kind.

Re: Front Bumper Modification

I guess your planning on redesigning the cooling system. Wish I knew more than factory engineers....

There is a curved piece behind there that goes from the bottom of the chin spoiler upwards, to help the air flow from underneath that the stock cooling system gets cooling air from. If your car was overheating & you felt the need to cut up the nose, there is something wrong with your cooling system, unless you are running something like twin turbo big block like Polly Motorports does & makes 1400hp.

Please.....Paint the screen black & "hide" that mod. Those silver circles look bad, IMO.

Re: Front Bumper Modification

i dont get it....sorry man lol. you wont cool the engine down anymore with those holes. our cars have air dams under the core supports and bumpers to cool the radiator. and by opening them ugly little holes will actually interupt it a bit and wouldnt be suprised if it actually got a little warmer. this is on a small scale of course where you wont see a differance virtualy at all anyway. and since the bumper is already ruined, you should just cur out a rectangle around them holes so it at least has somewhat a camaro look. lol

I'm sorry, but the first thing I would think when I see your car with that is "ghetto cruiser".

Re: Front Bumper Modification

Well I am not here to win best car award lol. It looks so much better when on the car, trust me. I think it looks badass. There is a pic on google of another 90' F-Bird with the same exact mod but I can't seem to find it.

Re: Front Bumper Modification

i think it would look more natural or fit the style of the car with rectangle holes instead of circles but if u like it thats all that matters enjoy

Yu know that is true and I had thought about that but the picture I found with the circle holes looked amazing. I'll try to find the pic again.

I like the first one! If I dont end up like these holes I'll probably just cut out the big rectangle like in the first pic(:

If you had a car like this, anything could be excused.

Re: Front Bumper Modification

Is this supposed to allow more air into the radiator or just for looks. If for air into the radiator you will have to remove some of the plastic egg crate behind it and then it would help with the bumper bar behind modded to allow air flow throw it and still retain some strength.

Re: Front Bumper Modification

Is that an original style front header pannel. I my self have thought about opening up my front bumper but I'm planning on getting a fiberglass front piece And besides opening up for more air flow."That by the way will move more air than just the air dam under the car , It won't hurt the cooling like others have stated here." Don't pay those negative people any mind. You have a good idea. It may not be how I'd do it. But it is your car. It will be nice to see what it looks like on your car.

Re: Front Bumper Modification

Thanks guys! It is there for looks and to move a little more air. I don't expect it to make a huge difference but it will help a little. What I plan on doing is making another air dam that connects this mod to the old air dam so all the cool, clean air will move together into the engine.

It is a bad PS that somebody here on TGO did putting almost the whole Camaro nose onto the Firebird nose. Used not just the grill but the turn signals from the Camaro too.

Re: Front Bumper Modification

I just bought a '87 Camaro Sport Coupe/LT roller; and want to put a 350 SBC in it and make it a Z/28. The engine bay was modified for a V8 when I bought it. To turn it into a Z/28, could I just buy a Z/28 Front Bumper Assembly and an IROC Z/Z28 grill or do I need to buy an IROC Z/Z28 Front Assembly? Would I also have to get Z/28 rear quarters or can I just put Z/28 emblems on the Sport Coupe rear quarters?

Thanks!

yea it should all be interchangeable. My firebird was the base model and I wanted the trans am front end so i just bought a trans am front clip and it all bolted right up. should be the same with a camaro.

Strange place to put your first post....

But, no, won't fit without modifications. Front bumper needs a different support bar and headlight assemblies. Neither the front or rear bumpers will line up with 86 ground effects on fenders doors or sides.
If you want to change to 92 style, you need the whole gfx package including bumpers and supports.
