front license plate bracket recomendations?
Not looking for a huge thing. But thanks to IL's lovely laws I finally had to bolt my plate up. Got ticketed twice in 2 days for it when the car was parked at home, nose to a wall. The cops now have it out for my car so i've left the plate on the car simply to avoid tickets.
I loaded up the back of the plate with RTV and let it dry so there aren't any sharp edges hitting the paint, but I still don't want it there. Since the holes were already in the bumper I didn't fight it too much.
Not looking for a hideaway bracket, I might if i didn't already have holes in the bumper for it. Just looking for a "low profile" one, or one that hugs the body fairly close and not one that sticks out a few inches. Would prefer something that has a relief for the angle of the nose's centerline?
Anyone have recommendations or pics of their installed choices?

Use a factory mount. I doubt it is even 1.5" thick total.

Re: front license plate bracket recomendations?
Yeah, that's true. I have the stock mount on my car and it does not stick out bad at all. I need to repait mine, but over all if you have to have a front plate like we do here in Ohio the stock one is not a bad way to go.

Do they even sell it anymore?
I don't have a bracket, and have never had one.

Best part is if you get stopped I just tell the cop I was at a show or taking pics of the car and forgot to bring it out LOL . works everytime as they cant say its not on the car as it is mounted when you pull it out right away. Heres a pic of it folded in on my car

Re: front license plate bracket recomendations?
Check with the dealer. last time I checked they had em'..
I made a bracket that is off to the pass side of the car and it bolts to exsiting holes on the bottom of the car. I have a new bumper and i'm NOT drilling holes in it.
I used to have one that was just zip ties and the plate swung back as soon as I went down the road. The cops didn't like that either.
And yes the front plate law in IL is freakin' dumb.

Re: front license plate bracket recomendations?
I got ticketed once for it too. My car was parked at my kid's soccer game, where I was coaching- volunteering to help the youth of the community and THAT'S what you get for your troubles. No good deed goes unpunished...
Anyway, I thought I would be clever and went to Walmart, got one of those soap dishes with the suckers that just press onto the shower wall. I pulled the suckers off and they snapped into the plate holes perfectly! I then attached it to the inside of the windshield on the passenger side and went off to the sheriff's station to get the ticket signed off. I showed it to the deputy and said that it meant the requirements of the law: 'mounted no higher than 'X' inches from the ground; securely mounted; visible from the front of the vehicle;' She said "I don't care, I am not signing off on it.' 'Even though it complies with the law?' 'That's right- I don't like it. It has to be screwed to the front of the car.' I asked her to show me where it says that in the California code and she just walked away. And cops wonder why they are thought to be 'Richard Craniums' by a lot of people...
So I went home and spent an entire Saturday fabing up a slick plate mount for the front that secures it and DOES NOT REQUIRE ANY HOLES and went to another substation. The deputy on duty looked at the ticket, glanced out the window at my car a good 200 feet away AND SIGNED IT OFF! I said 'I spent damn near the entire weekend making that custom bracket, as well as painting it- the LEAST you can do is go out and take a closer look at it! If I had known this was all it takes I would have used double sided tape!!'
At least he smiled...
I will post a picture of it when I get a chance.

if you are avoiding the hideaway brackets because of the holes already in your grill, just fill them, and repaint it, that's what I did. you won't regret the hideaway.

if you've got it lowered... I don't know what to say. I will say that the take a lot of the abuse that otherwise the chin spoiler would take. Worth the money just for that side of it.

Re: front license plate bracket recomendations?

Re: front license plate bracket recomendations?
it's bad enough to put a plate over a camaro grill, where it almost looks like it was means to go, but on a GTA? Please, lord no!

Re: front license plate bracket recomendations?
Maybe I just have an ******* of a cop, but I can't keep paying tickets, and I'm not going to spray/repaint my bumper. So a plate bracket it is.
I live in an apartment complex, which means i park on a Private Road aka a "street". While cops never seem to ticket me when I drove with it off, I got tickets EVERY night for 3 nights.

Re: front license plate bracket recomendations?
Hees some pics of the bracket i made for under the car as I didnt want to add anymore hole in the lip. I ended up drilling 2 holes in the reinforcement bar and using 2 holes where the under panels go on the front of the car. heres a pic of it. I know the welds look like crap ( still learning )

Unfortunately I have to make another bracket and get a new hideway as the car ramp for my trailer came off while I was loading it anf wiped it out and the chin spoiler too. Now I get to paint the spoiler luck I got a paint place that will make a spray can of it and all I got to do is clear it after

Re: front license plate bracket recomendations?
here's mine. two very small holes on the bottom side of the lip of the chin, well worth it when you figure these chins wear holes in the front of them just by dubbing up against stuff. The plate actually protects it, no matter what position it's in.
