Gas tank capacity?

Hello,

I have an 89/305 with a 5sp. I thought it was 15.6 gallons but now that seems like a wierd number to me. Anybody know? (The owners manual is unaccessible right now.)
Also, when I push the gas gauge almost below the "E" I still seem to have about 4 or 5 gallons left on a regular basis. Anyone else experience this?

ya, the tank is 15.6 gal. I also seem to have about 5 gallons in reserve when the neddle is down on E. At the half tank mark, my car only takes 5 gallons. I think this might be a saftey feature by chevy to keep you from running out of gas and getting air into the fuel system.

I don't know how accurate your fuel gage really is, but I wouldn't be running it to empty on a regular basis - that is how your fuel pump will burn up prematurely. It is cooled by fuel in the tank...
