J.C. Whitney fenders

Has anyone ever used these? Are they as good as GM fenders? They seem cheap enough and I was thinking of getting new ones before I get the car painted.

My personal opinion (for what it is worth) is that JC Whitney is frightening. I think that if you buy these you will probably get exactly what you pay for. Once again, this is just my opinion, but beware.

Personally I'd buy from GM.. aftermarket stuff doesn't usually fit well and a fender is something you want to go on properly. I had to replace the front bumper and ground fx on my '82.. lucky me the bumper came from GM and had no problems with alignment. It was a different story with the ground fx that was an aftermarket stock replacement It fit like chit.

IMO you will be sorry. JC products are definitely inferior. Get a real replacement from GM or a JY--they'll have good, quality steel and will fit correctly.

I just got new fendersd from GM and they only cost $150 each. Not too bad in my book. Besides, like everyone else has said, factory parts have the best fit and give the least amount of headaches down the road.

I know (knew?) a kid that did work on his Cavalier Z24. He bought a JC Whitney panel. It fit, but it didn't have the body line halfway down the fender. I forget what it's called; but you know how there's a crease halfway down from the top of your door, right by the side molding? It was missing on the JCW fender.

He also had to work the fender a bit to get it to align, but hey, that happens with all fenders. You couldn't tell at a glance, but when you got up close, you could tell the fender was missing the body line. It was just a smooth curve. Hopefully you get what I mean

Fenders around here range from $60=okay shape to $100=perfect, from a junkyard.

I have gotten my share of sh!iity replacement parts fro mGM though. I bought the plastic grilles for the front of my car which were $60 each, and they had paint runs. I would check local junk yards first. Hell, I got a whole door with the window, pl, and pw motor from the junkyard for $25. Granted, it needed alot of bondo...

I just ordered a new steel cowl hood for my 91 RS from GM Restoration Parts aka. Goodmark. It was missing the entire inner reinforcing structure. It was just the outer shell. THen they gave my painter a hard time when we sent it back. THe stuff is the best but you can have problems with everything.

Listen to TomP. I would avoid JC Whitney sheetmetal like the plague. They specialize in having low prices on parts, not necessarily the best quality.

I rebuilt a VW bug a few years ago & I bought a rear apron from JCW. The stamping was so warped that it was actually worse than the one I was replacing.
