89 RS Armrests un-glued

Does anyone know of a way to repair armrests? What has happen to mine is the top & bottom has become unglued and is flaired out against the door panel. Was this common? Any suggestions would be helpfull. Thanks

i took mine off the doors and used liquid nails to glue it back and just taped black duck tape around them to hold for drying, put them back on and took tape off after a few days. still holding up about 6 months later, or you have the option of buying new ones off ebay purhaps.

i think if you ask around you will find it is a very common problem, i have seen it in numerous pictures, as for my car only my driver side is curling...

so when you used the liquid nails it held all the foam together and everything, i may give it a shot...

Get some from a yard from an 84. I guarantee if it's an 84, they're still okay. Those suckers were made right. I replaced my tan 89 armrests with black ones from an 84Z and I know of several people on this board who've done the same.

Yeah that happened to mine too. I replaced them with a set from an older camaro. I'm not sure what year they are but their made different. Their not as thick as the new ones but their made better. I think I grabbed them out of an 84. And they look like there brand new. I ve had them for about 2 years and they haven't give me a prob. And they matched alot better than my orginal ones. Check out www.thirdgenparts.com they prob have a set to replace your old ones if your looking to go that route.

The later model armrests have the same problems as firebird consoles... The vinyl GM used shrinks with age so they pull away. The only suggestion I have is preventive maintenance... use a sunshade, get the windows tinted, park in shaded areas, etc...

Mine hasn't pulled away yet. But after glueing it you should re-staple it as well I would think.
