Anyone seen this one before?

I remember the older Testarossa kits but this one looks different. Car was orignally a 86 V6 Bird. I picked up on Sunday for parts. The kit is really unique and I will try to save it from the car. It also have the aftermarket C&C T-Tops, Dakota digital gauges, GTA rims, and a (supposedly) built 350 and newer 700R4.
Anyone interested in the kit, let me know..

Looks like it is missing the front piece. Look here.

Re: Anyone seen this one before?

About a month ago I seen a 3rd gen with a full Testarossa kit on it-it was black. It was driving, but I know right away what it was. The kit you have is not all that bad, but the full kit is just gross!

Re: Anyone seen this one before?

bluegrassz---Thats it...looks to be the predator kit and is missing the front portion as the car just has a plain TA front on it.

haps---As far as parting the car. The complete interior is stripped, not sure is the motor and tranny are good. The pics look better than it is...the kit is all good, prett sure I can remove from car without harming it. I've built 18 of these things and this ones way past what I would put into restoring.

Cripes, are you out of your mind? That's a perfectly good body there! With a hard-to-find aftermarket body kit on it! Sell it to someone who needs a body instead of crushing it! If I had the money, I'd be all over that like flies on a pig pen!

Re: Anyone seen this one before?

Ya, that car has the Predator kit's side skirts and rear bumper. The last company making it stopped making them in 2005. I talked to the company that made them back in 2005 at the time they had 2 kits left and the company was in the Czech Republic. Kits were about $800.

Re: Anyone seen this one before?

Guys, the body on this car is nowhere near what it appears in the pic. I've had 18, yes 18, TA's and would never scrap a solid car. The pans have rot thru, the quarters are a lot of bondo, the shaved handles job is botched and I plan to use the aftermarket C&C t-tops for another 3G. I do plan on taking the kit off of it as its already pulling off of the passenger side. If it goes to scrap, it will have no tops, a rusted out floor, and essentially a subframe and quarters as thats not worth saving. The title states that it was a 1986 V6 bird. Upon initial views of the PO's photos, I thought the same thing, but been there too many times and this one is no saver. But as stated, its legacy will live on thru parts donations.

By this logic, mine should've been scraped along side yours. Nevertheless, who is going to be the lucky benefactor of the donated body kit?

Re: Anyone seen this one before?

I would say if the OP has had 18 TA's then he knows what he's looking at and dealing with. Not all cars can be saved or worth being saved for that matter. As long as he takes off all the good parts then I don't see an issue with scapping out the rest if it's really that bad. If I lived close I would take that hood for the right price, but well I don't. Also it's not even a TA-it's a v6 bird.

Re: Anyone seen this one before?

Thank you 2007xl50. It amazes me the peeps on here that believe every car is salvageable. Been at this a long time and if it was a TA, GTA , or Formy, I would at least place the body somewhere to be used... But its not, and the costs to bring back a V6 bird does not justify anything but using every other part available and letting the rest go. I'd give you the hood, but in all honestly, the bonding of the scoop has huge cracks and needs to be redone. Will probably separate and use the scoop on my Maro and sell the plan bird hood as is. If peeps really cared about these cars, they'd get out and locate these as I do and either rebuild or part whats available before the entire car ends up in the scapper as this one was. The PO was gonna scrap everything, even my beloved GTA rims...In the last two weeks, I have bought this car and an 84 5spd Z28 that was going the yard. Parts from this car will find their way to the Z. Better to save one than scrap two. Might even find a few odd ends for my finished GTA.

Haps, ya know they do make floor pan replacement panels and there's never an excuse for over 1/16" of bondo anywhere on a car. If there is, someone didn't know how to properly do bodywork... I'm keeping the body kit for a rainy day.

Peeps driving around in Joe Dirt, beat-to-hell 3G's that are way past repair or not taken car of are what drives the negative perceptions associated with our generation. A nicely restored, well cared for 3G is a hard find, we need more of these. Its up to us to carry the banner and continue the legacy started by the 1 & 2G's.

Re: Anyone seen this one before?

95% of the cars that guys part on this site are salvageable...including this one. It's not salvageable for you to turn enough of a profit, so it gets stripped and sent to the crusher with very few parts donated.....but that's just my guess. It makes one wonder how many of the past 18 have made it to new owners.

Re: Anyone seen this one before?

Thats a great observation for only being on here for 2yrs... Many posts does not make one wise...

The point is, any car is salvageable, all of them. The question becomes would a person spend more in restoration fees than the resulting value of the car. A 1986 V6 Firebird is not a "treasured" find to most, but the great parts that are available on the car can provide options for upkeeping something that is valued. As for my 18 birds, this does not count parts cars, all 18, were/are drivers and fully restored before selling. I have had my current GTA for 7yrs and plan on keeping it in top shape for many years to come.
If I do turn a profit on a car, which most of the parts are given to friends, it only goes to fund the next 3G project.

If you want the hull once I'm done, drive to ATL and its yours to restore.

Someone not trying to make a profit certainly would...and has. You've solidified my point. It's impossible to fully restore these cars and make a profit, which has me questioning your definition of restoration.

Appreciate the offer on the shell, but I have my own that needs attention.

Wow dude-you would think you are crushing a 1970 Dodge Daytona LOL! My God it's an 86 v6 bird that no one cares about. I'm all about saveing cool cars, but there is a point when you can't save them all or like this car not worth saveing. It sounds like you have a true love for 3rd gens and use junk cars to save others that are in better shape-nothing wrong with that. Guys-lay off and let the man so with his cars as he wants.

That's the issue I have, until you do care, the stigma will continue. They don't need to be special to be saved. Flipping multiple cars to make a buck isn't treating them with the respect they deserve.

Re: Anyone seen this one before?

Evil Ed-- no pics of the guages, probably gonna go into my maro..

Haps--

#1...I dont flip cars. Many of my eighteen, I owned for several years and made sure they went to good homes. I restore, drive until bored, then move to the next. The only cars I have ever made money on were two '77 TA's. Not here for the money
#2..."valued" is not only a reference to monetary value. As stated, most of the parts I reuse, are donated to friends working on other projects. I make my money through my job, I just do the car thing because I love it and have for 42 yrs...
#3...If you need any parts for your needed repairs, they're sold everyday online

#4.. FO and worry about fixing your own ride before crossing into my yard throwing rocks.

Save them all.
You'd have tallied more points if you went with Shakespeare version rather than Clemens. Nice GTA...hope they all look like that.
