convertible interior parts? What fits?

I own a 1991 camaro convertible. I want to switch the interior over to black instead of that ugly red. I was thinking of going to black or grey or both, like the one posted earlier here. I will need new seat belts. Which ones fit for my car? I also need the rear panels, i know they will be very difficult to find, but i am going to try. What years did camaros have these same panels. And one last question for now, are the arm rests on the doors the same for firebirds and camaros? Thanks for any input.

The rear panels on my car are just a felt looking mateial, some carpet and vinyle armrests. I say have an apholstery shop recovery it,replace the carpet on it,and paint the vinyle armrests. Voila rear seat panels will look as good as new and will probably be cheaper that buying a set in good shape.Thats what I would do.

And as far as armrests go, 82-87 is one style, 88-92 is another style. If you ever do complete your changeover, send your old red stuff my way. I will buy it from you. I have the 85-89 carmine red interior, but have always admired the 90-92 flame red interior. Yes, I know..I am in the minority.

The rear seat belts are different. Convertible's have a manually adjustable lap belt with eyelet to attach the shoulder belt. Coupe's have a lap belt with spring retractor. I don't know it the spring retractor is the same for front belts in coupe & 'vert as I haven't had the headliner off of my coupe yet. The rear belts could be dyed with fabric dye and the plastic cover sprayed satin black. The door sill trim pieces can be converted to black by spraying with satin black as well. Best bet is to pick up what you can at a Pick-a-Part or on eBay. Use what you can and paint/dye everything else. If you get a new door sill plate from a coupe, you have to grind out the reinforcing ribs from the inside front & rear. I just found this out by swapping a piece from a coupe myself. Convertibles have an extra steel reinforcing piece welded in at the bottom of the door opening inside front & rear. Good luck, Lon.

I have been thinking about it and now i wanna get the seats from a fourth gen that are black with a red center. Then i can save big bucks by keeping my seat belts, and maybe my panels. I would change over to black carpet, black trim, and black armrests. Keep the rest the same, How do you guys think that would look. Basically the same as the grey and black interior posted here, but with red and black.

The front seat belts appear to be the same between the normal cars and the convertibles. Ever notice how the convertible shoulder belts always have a twist in them? thats because the top retractor was bolted to the ceiling in a hardtop, but its upside down on a convertible. Also switching the carpet would be a major pain in the *** if you intend to do the truck area. I know on my convertible the interiors gray and the trunk is black, but if you want to change that carpet you'll have to remove a ****load of difficult to remove parts to do it since the cargo carpet is under the tonneau cover and trunk.

Ps there seem to be at least 3 different types of armrests on thirdgens... the 82-87's with the stripe down the side, then it gets fishy... My 91's all have rounded armrests with exposed bolts, but I've seen some that had beauty covers also.

My trunk is black so that is no big deal. I just wanna tone down the red a lot. The seat belt does have a twist in it, i was alway wondering why i couldn't get it straight.

I switched from gray to black in an '88 convertible. The rear carpet is not hard to replace--all you do is pop the hatch and pull it through toward the rear seats after removing the trunk plastic. It comes through rather easily if you fold it up a little. You have to make 2 small "L" cuts so the carpet fits around the welding in the convertible trunk--just use the old piece as a guide. And save the hard plasic protector piece from the old to put on the new as coupes don't have it. Jim, I know you're not doing this but the info might be useful for anyone else who is. And Drew--are you saying that the mounting pieces for seat belts in coupes are the same as the convertibles but mount upside down? I was not aware of this but it would make finding a new set easier, with the lack of convertibles with black interior out there.

That's exactly what I'm saying... ASC just flipped them over and bolted them down. It kinda sucks cause it makes them uncomfortable.
