aftermarket spoiler/wing

Hey guys my 89 GTA had a fiberglass reproduction wing installed by a reputable body shop, I am not too sure the name of manufacturer but I believe it was purchased through Hawks.
Anyway, the sides of the wing that should be right on the edge of the glass on the hatch, is about 1/2" high and just doesnt look right. I attached a photo to show what I am talking about. Basically, the line of glass right above the gas tank shouldnt have the gap that mine has...there shouldnt be much of any gaps at all.
There are clips visible and while some of them appear to be on as they should, the black rectangular clip furthest to the front of the car doesnt seem to be clipped in. It does have the "play" to be moved to where it should be, but the clips dont allow it to stay there. maybe I should have my body guy take the thing off and put it back on properly with the clips adjusted? what do you guys think?

You paid someone to put it on, if its not right take it back and say fix it. But be nice when you say fix it.

Gee, thanks bud.
Should I put on a Camaro spoiler? Or not have a spoiler at all on a TA?

There are a few spoilers that look good on TA's, I recently saw a high rise 91-92 Z28 spoiler mounted on one that looked pretty good, but the stock "Wraparound" style is double fugly IMHO.

Re: aftermarket spoiler/wing

Take it to the shop and have it fixed how it should be and get them to do it right the first time, I'd be in a fit of rage because I only expect the Very Best for my car.

Re: aftermarket spoiler/wing

Guys I am sorry if you don't like the stock OEM wraparound spoiler that comes on Trans Ams. I would rather leave my car as it is now than put on anything other than the original spoiler/wing on the car. I personally think the Camaro spoilers are gross on my car.
I posted the topic to see if anyone knew what I could do short of going to the body shop to have them do it.
So no one out there has experience with the aftermarket wings on these cars? Or knows enough to explain how I could fix this myself?

Re: aftermarket spoiler/wing

thaemcee2, what kind of clip did the body man use? me and a friend ran screws into the recesses where the clips "would" go on the factory wing and measured how far back/forth and in/out we wanted the screws and made a mark on the body and transferred that measurement onto the wing.

after we had the placement of the wing setup and screws in, we worked with how it sucked to the glass and mine is pretty tight to the glass.

this is just after we mounted it. if you need better shots lemme know.

You could try forming it to your car with heat if the wing is misshapen. I've never done it personally, but I've seen it done, I guess it depends on what the wing is made out of. I can't really tell from the pictures you posted exactly how it mounts or how to adjust it. It could just be that the guys who mounted it didn't know how it was supposed to look when they were done with it and mounted it wrong. You won't know unless you dismount it and see if rests flush with the hatch without being bolted on.

Re: aftermarket spoiler/wing

The clips that come with it suck. You can use the original mounting tab and add stainless steel screws to mount it.

These spoilers from Hawks don't come with mounting tabs,It's just as easy or easier to use the hardware it comes with.Whoever installed that guys, did it wrong.

This is where the shop located those clips on the spoiler, how they go on to the hatch,I don't know, the guy that installed it was not their.I'll try tomorrow again.

Re: aftermarket spoiler/wing

I have the clips on mine. I bought the car with the wing already installed. While my spoiler lines up where it should, I don't think the clips are sturdy enough. When I get the opportunity, I want to take the wing off and use the screws to mount it. You have 3 mounts per side as opposed to 1. I can grab the ends of my wing and move them around. It is not that secure.
