ROLL CAGE QUESTION

ok i know that they help stiffen the car. i know that weld ins are better. but what i dont know is how do they get them in there. i mean this may sound stupid. is it dissambled then welded together. our doors arent that big and the tubes go all the way to the roof. please give me some feed back on this. it may sound stupid but isnt it a logical ?. i thought so and i really want an 8pt cage . thanks all.

The rollcages and rollbars come in pieces. They are welded inside the car.

I run an 8-point bar from S&W Racecars. Nice, cheap, and the optional f-body door bars are bent to clear my door panels and even my Corbeau seats. Better than any rollbar I have ever seen... www.swracecars.com

How hard is it to install a rollcage cleanly? How do you put the carpet in and how do you paint the cage? Does it get in the way of any plastic interior peices. I saw pics of a roll cage installed on a Camaro and it didn't look too neat.

It's a pain in the butt. My whole interior came out, then my welder put in the bar. Next, my bodyshop masked off anything I didn't want painted black. After paint goes the new carpet. You have to measure carefully and cut holes in the carpet to wrap around the bars.

I know you are all Quarter-Mile'rs, and I don't know jack about that, But if you want to go SCCA racing, the cage can't be welded to the car.

BTW, I helped install a 4-pt bar (bolt-in) in a BMW M3, and all we had to do was taKe out the seats. The whole thing goes in in one piece.

Good Luck!

why cant it be welded in.. i am going to race SCCA this summer with a buddy of mine. just curious. you would think it would be stiffer that way. and the bolt holes would become oblong on the bolt in one. wtf

some SCCA classes are screwy like that, but most of the faster classes (not 150% stock) require a welded cage.
