Ram air hood with TBI?

Hello everyone, I'm new to this board and I've got a quick question. I've got a 91 Firebird with a 305 TBI. I've got an open air element and want to get a ram air hood. Is there some way to make the ram air hood effective? Thanks for any replies.

Hey there,
It's possible to make the hood useful, but there is no easy way to do it. It will require some fabbing.

Is there any particular way you've got in mind? I've heard of having the hood taken to a place that cuts fiberglass and trying to channel the air toward the open element. Would this work?

In my opinion, fabbing it to a TBI would be a breeze compared to with TPI/MPFI. What you'd need to do is cut off the front third or half of your air filter housing, then mount (bondo, glue, duct tapoe, arc welding, bubblegum, spit) a box of some sort that would lock that open hole air tight with some holes you cut in the underside of the hood. With an SS hood, it would almost be a straight up deal. With a Ram Air, you'd have to extend your ducting (newly ghetto rigged air box) forward to meet up with some holes. Plug all the other sources of incoming/outgoing air (so as to get pressure at highway speeds), and then use some weather stripping around the edges of the box so it will seal aainst the hood when it's closed. Voila. Could probably be done in one afternoon with about $50 or less in materials and a dremel tool. Any questions, email me. I've got a very clear picture of this in my head, just can't describe it well in words. Maybe I"ll throw together a blueprint and send it if you want.
