How do i get my headliner down?
I have a non t-top 88 IROC. Im tired of having a saggy headliner. How do i go about getting it down? I already checked the board archeives so dont yell at me for that, and i read the t-top headliner tech article too, but there are some differences between the t-top liner and the non t-top. so....how do i get the window trim panels off and what else do i have to do to get it down?? Thanks for the help guys.

As far as I know... theres a little panel near the hatch that you have to take off, as well as the sun visors... after that I think it'd just come right off... just a few screws, fairly simple thing... but I'm sorta unsure about the seatbelts, that part confused me (I don't have a headliner so I'm just taking a shot in the dark with this one...I also don't have a shoulder belt, so once again, another stab in the dark) ... it should come off pretty easily once you get those down though

You have to remove the back piece near the hatch, which is held in place with 4 screws. You need to remove the covers on the sail panels, which are held into place with 1 screw each. You need to remove the black trim piece that extends from the top of the door area to the roof that is right in front of the sail panel. That's held on with one screw and a push-in connector. The piece that runs over the window opening and down the a-pillar is a pain in the *** to remove and is installed with clips that are basically guaranteed to break. Plan on buying new ones. You also have to remove the thingies that are around the seat belt opening. These are sorta tough to remove without breaking if you don't know the trick. It's tough to describe, but there are 4 tabs that need to be depressed and then it'll come right out. If you break these, you're sort of up a creek. Anyway, once that's done, you've got the 2 sun visors. Once they're out, there are 3 tabs on the backside of the headliner itself that push into holes in the roof right behind the windshield. Sometimes you can get them out with a screwdriver, but usually they pull out of the headliner. Once you get that taken care of and the seatbelts out of the way, the headliner can come down and go backwards out the hatch.
If you want instructions on how to refinish it, let me know. I've done a couple and they are cake.

A simple tip to aid in removal from the car is to lay the front seat backs down. You'll provide yourself with more room to work.

I'm probably going to replace my headliner soon, too. How do I get it past the overhead light? It looks to me like it is riveted in, or am I on crack? Thanks!

Doesnt really say much, but it looks like you just pull it out? I'll try something. I'm most likely going to replce it with something custom so I guess it doesnt really matter.......

I'm in the process of changing headliners in my 88 Formula and I can tell you from experience that the spray-on adhesives are not worth spending money on. I finally ended up getting a new ABS plastic headliner with foam lined cloth. Have not installed it yet - it did not come with a way to install the 3 clips in the front. Everything else is just put back on.
