I have a door pin problem!

How is every one doing tonight?
I'm having a problem with my drivers door. The door drags on the spoiler at the bottom of the door sill when it is closed. When i lift the door up, there is a lot of play in the lower pin area. Also, the lower pin can be pushed almost all the way out by hand! If I were to change the lower pin & bushing would the problem be corrected? How hard is this job (do I need two people etc.)How much is the pin kit for one door?
any info on this topic will
be appreciated,
thanx

Third Gen Resource has a kit that you can work with. I forgot just how much it is but its a place to start. If you search the message board arcives there is one for how to rehang the door.

I think i am having the same problem. My door hangs real far and when opened I get alot of play with it. I was hoping it was just the pins but I took it to 5 body shops and was told I needed to replace the pins and the hinges at a cost of about $450 including paint.

I replaced them about a year ago, I bought a big kit from jcwhitney that had 10 of each kind of pin and a bunch of bushings. It was a "master kit" and has all kinds of pins for just about any GM, Ford or Chrysler hinge. It worked out well and now I have all these extras and the kit was about $40.

I just bought pins and bushings at NAPA for about $6 per door. I haven't installed them yet.

I had a similar problem on my 89 Beretta. Driver's door would just drop down when you openned it. I just went to a junk yard, got another lower hinge- problem solved!

If the alignment is off, take the kick panel off, and there are 3 15mm bolts that the hinge attaches to the door with. You can always try loosening them and moving the door up, then tightening them back down. I tried this b/c I didn't have the $ for new hinges. It didn't totally fix the problem, but it helped a little bit (door ended up breaking the GFX in half before I found the hinge bolts).

I just repaired my hinges this past weekend.
If your doors sagging and hitting the jam or ground effect your upper hinge is also shoot, The upper is around $60. Youre going to have remove the door, drill out the spot welds, lay the hinge in the EXACT pistion the old one was at and redrill usaully 2 holes. The lower pin kit wont do s--t with out a new upper, you cant rebuild it since GM rivets the 2 halfs toghter.

I got my door spring compressor from http://www.toolsource.com/ost/dept.a...urceid=900EM10 last year for about $20, don't remember exactly.
I searched for it before replying here, it didn't come up, so you would want to e-mail them about it, that's what I had to do.

I went to www.toolsource.com and found the door spring tools by searching for "door spring".

This is the GM Door SPring Tool $11.95

which is here: http://www.toolsource.com/ost/produc...J74979AMV3D0V8

How does this thing work? Do you jam it around the spring, sqweeze it to together, then pull the tool out with the spring inside? Could I make one of these?

AndyZ28 has a very nice hinge bushing repair kit. Its a little more than $15 bucks though. Its prolly worth every penny.

I also used AndyZ28's kit, well worth it. I bought my spring compressor tool from the Cornwell man.
