Custom Door Panels

I am thinking of redoing my interior... and one thing about my camaro rs that i disliked was its plain jane interior door panels. I was wondering if anyone has/had done any custom work on some interior door panels. If so i'd love to see some pictures..

Basically i think im askin for suggestions and comments.
My interior has 97 TA charcoal leather seats and was origionally a light greay basic interior. no bells or whistles at all.

thanks for your input. in advance

-Steve

I made mine from scratch but they are pretty simple. They were my first attempt. You can get new cardboard and cut it yourself from an upholstery shop in West Columbia. I am going to make some better ones soon.

How do you post pics on this board? Sorry, I never did this before. I have a picture of a camaro with some kick a$$ custom door panels. They are gray and have flames cut out on them. They look 3-D. They arent in my car, I found them somewhere, but I am not exactly sure where.

To post an image, type {img}http://www.domain.com/images/carpic.jpg{/img}

but replace the "{" and "}" with "[" and "]", and replace "http://www.domain.com/images/carpic.jpg" with the url to the picture on the web.

yea i was figureing on going to lowes and getting that real thin flexible wood instead of actually using cardboard agian. then i was thinkin about doing a 3 d relief of some sort but i dnot know what and thats why i was asking. I almost wanna integrate the handle/armrest into the new model so that it looks totally different but i probably wont. you dont happen to have any pics of yours do you thor?

That upholstry store your talking about in west columbia, are you referring to Nordans?

Thanks

The best place to look is either at a car show or in a car mag, specificly ones dedicated to street rods or 55-57 Chevys. Street Rodder magazine has always been a favorite of mine for getting ideas for my cars.

Masonite or cardboard both work well for the backing. Multiple layers of 1/8" thick foam (or thicker if you like) cut to shape with an exacto knife and applied with 3M spray adhesive work for giving the sculptured design underneath the fabric or vinyl.

I sent the pics to 2 people, since i couldnt figure out how to post the pic. I asked them to post it for me, but 2 days have gone by and nothing. Sorry about that. Well I can at least describe the dorr panels for now. They were the same color as the ones on the 50 sumthin chevy. The design was the three dimensional flames. I like it alot better than the ones on that chevy.

I have an idea. Is there any way to get the pattern of the screaming chicken? I like that emblem, and think it would look kind of nice on the door pannels. I just dont know how to make these pannels. Let me know how I would go along and customize my own. Thanks.

Jims83TA: That sounds like a cool idea if you do just the head or upper portion. If you do go with that, post pics of how it turns out. I dont think theyd go well in Purple's Camaro though..

well the way i would do it is try to get a small sticker size about the size i'd want on my door, apply that sticker to the wood and then cut it out.. the hardest part then would be to put it on top of the other wood and to lay the fabric over top of it so it would look right.. or at least i think that would be the hardest..

For my doors i was thinking of the flame thing but incorporating that bow tie emblem into the front of it so it looks like the flames are coming off the bowtie.

what do you all think?
