Repaint - replace all weatherstripping?
Is there a comprehensive list of weatherstripping to replace?
Here is what I have so far for my 88 GTA hardtop.
1. Door weatherstripping
2. Hatch weatherstripping
3. Outer window sweeps
4. Mirror weatherstripping?
5. Replace hatch glass to lid weatherstripping?
How about the inner window sweeps?
Any input would be appreciated as I need to order parts ASAP for repaint.
Thx

Re: Repaint - replace all weatherstripping?
Money isn't the issue. I DO want to replace all the weatherstripping...I just want to make sure I have a comprehensive list, to order it all at the same time.
Anyone have any adds/changes or a more complete list list?
Also, I have researched and found that I should be using Fairbanks weatherstripping for the doors...any input on this?

Is your car a t top car?
You need door, hatch, inner sweeps, outer sweeps, window triangles, t top set if you have t tops, otherwise the hardtop set, cowl,
I am sure I missed something.
I used the Fairchild door weatherstrip and I am very happy with them.
You can go for your lungs with the original GM or try to find alternatives. Everybody has a different opinion on what works.

I appreciate the responses...but I have to wonder if people do too much quick skimming when reading
Check post #1...88 Firebird GTA hardtop.
The inner and outer sweeps, mirror triangles, cowl weatherstripping is what I didn't have down. I hadn't even thought about the glass...I believe I do have some very minor windshield seperation...which should be covered under my insurance full glass coverage on the car.
Where is the best place to get the windshield trim?
EDIT: I am repainting the GTA the original color - arctic white

Windshield trim
If you buy a replacement windshield it will come with a trim around it that is much wider then the original. If you do change your windshield and want to maintain a stock appearance, buy that trim and give it to the glass guys and tell them to remove the one on the windshield and install this trim.

Re: Repaint - replace all weatherstripping?
I had my windshield replaced this summer due to separation in the glass, not the seal, it looked like crap. They came to the house and did it,new seal included, for less than $200.00.The molding(seal)is bigger

Mantaguy...do you have glass coverage through insurance to cover this? Or did you just pay cash?
I really have to check that out...living in MN means I should have that done sooner due to upcoming cold weather.

Re: Repaint - replace all weatherstripping?
I'd also replace the windshield outer trim. But any good shop will remove the windshield anyway. Just make sure they install new trim.
Plus, a good time to insure the glass is in good shape. Some will show signs of separation around the edges and that looks horrible. If that's the case, a new windshield is the way to go.
Definitely take the opportunity to replace the inner window sweeps and the triangles, as mentioned above.
Are you having it repainted the same color or changing it?

Re: Repaint - replace all weatherstripping?
If they are OK then don't worry about them. Mine were brittle and the edges were cracked, so they needed to be replaced. I ordered a pair from 1A Auto, http://www.1aauto.com/1A/Weatherstri...SK00182/260239
Problem solved!
You may also find them at a salvage yard, in good condition, and for a lot less. As long as they look good and they're supple, then I would not worry about replacing them.

If you buy a replacement windshield it will come with a trim around it that is much wider then the original. If you do change your windshield and want to maintain a stock appearance, buy that trim and give it to the glass guys and tell them to remove the one on the windshield and install this trim.

It does't look bad tho,I mean you would have to be looking for that(and it is large)Well,I'm not changing it now,I'll have to live with it.
