Interior Lighting....

I will be changing my GTA's interior gauge and acc. color to a nie dark blue. Now, what is the best way to do this? Where can I get new bulb condoms, or should I go colored bulbs? The covers sound better, because they wont fade. Also.... the defroster and acc. switches, how would I change the colors in them???

Thanks All, I will post pics of my progress.

I'm not to fond of the amber/orange color of the gauges/controls. Autometer makes the lil bulb condoms that fit the gauge bulbs but, I found you have to double up on them because the color isn't very strong. I think JEGs sells actual colored glass bulss in the (cringe) import section of their catalogue (to lazy to look) which would be the way to go. As for the A/C controls, I havne't gotten to taking that apart to see if the actual plastic is colored or if there is just orange film over the bulbs (I believe it's the plastic tho). I odn't know of any year firebirsd they were blue (or that odd greenish color). Earlier camaros came clear to where you could put colored bulbs in there,, but the controls are a bit different from the 'birds. Also, the lights (don't know what you would call them) that are over the radio and the headlight switch have a orange plastic film in them for color that you can't get out and the plastic assy doesn't come apart,, I'm not sure how you would go about changing those either unless you somehow cut them apart and glued them back together.

I was thinking about getting white overlays but that would look hideous (IMO) with everything else being orange coloured. The blue/green color on the original gauges at night does look good tho.

I figured out how to change the color of the defroster switch, and fog light switch, pretty easy. When McEwen gets them done, I will be getting the silver overlays, my GTA is silver, with those, and the blue lighting, it outta look killer.
What do you think?

Hey B L A D E....

How DO you change the bulbs? I am thinking of doing the same thing...or is McEwen doing them for you? I need the info on this please, would like to distinguish my car from all the other ones out there....the blue is what i want to do too....too ALL the controls. I plan to use the white inlays from McEwen for my guages and shifter...but would like the same for the buttons too, if possible...the only thing i dont know about is the 99 Grand Am GT stereo...the LCD is red/orange to match the interior... Thankx.

I am talking about the same lights...the ones that light up your dashboard(the numbers on your speedo, tach, etc) and the other ones also..all buttons, radio/air conditioning controlls, shift gear lights, etc, etc...everything. I'd like to turn them into either a nice dark(but bright)blue, or a purple...i will be getting the white faced gauge inlays soon.

Alright Phantom. All I have so far is how to do the instrument cluster (just buy the bulbs, 194's, and put them in, easy as cake) And the defroster, fog, amp, trunk release switches, I am still working on everything else.
When I get some progress made, I'll let you know. Anything you want to know first? I am looking for a place to start....haha.

Later,
tris

By the way(assuming you saw the movie), it was awesome. Anyway, please let me know your progress, and if possible, post some pics at night with your work thats done. I cant start on this till summer(no time)but since i have discovered this board, i've gone apes**t in ideas for my 86 :-) the 194's...i'm assuming you are getting them through McEwen? I just cant wait to start on this...dark navy blue is the color i want, but bright, so i can actually see it too. I am very interested in knowing about the buttons. I think i will have a problem with the 99 stereo i have in there...it lights up reddish orange...so does the LCD display...no way of changing that, is there? Let me know how everything goes, and keep me posted. Email me if you prefer. I appreciate your help. Thanks.
