rear hatch is leaking bad!

Hey everyone,
We had a bad rainstorm here a couple of days ago and I noticed my rear hatch was leaking really bad at the top(right behind my back passenger seat) I checked the weatherstripping and it isn't cracked or pulled up anywhere. The only thing that I see that might be a problem is the plastic pieces are separated where is it leaking from. Would some silicone stop this? Any help is appreciated.

Are you sure it isn't your T-Tops?????

Thats an odd spot to have a leak from your hatch. If it were, I would think that the water would run down and pool at the rear of the hatch instead of at the top (back of rear seat).

no it isn't the t-tops I looked right at it as it was dripping. The place that it is leaking isn't even connected to the t-tops. thanks for the suggestion though

I don't doubt you. But, when I suspected my latch was leaking I tore all of my plastic trim off to see what was what. What I saw was the sheet metal from the roof (t-tops) runs all the way back to the hatch. When my tops would leak, the water ran down the sheet metal past the tops and out of the screw hole that held that long piece of plastic in place. The same piece that covers the hatch bolts. The guy who owned it before me even caulked those bolts thinking that that was where the leak was.

KlayBuRn,

How big of a pain was that? I tried to get one out of a donor and just gave up. There was now way to get to it without damaging the weatherstriping.

How/where did you get yours?

Just a thought- make sure the water is not coming from where the hatch bolts to the car. I had the same thing happen to me and it turned out to be water coming around the bolts. I just took the nuts off and put sealer in and the problem went away.

Look at the rubber stopper at the end of the hatch and make sure it is screwed tight to the hatch. My trunk leak like hell because the stopper got loose somehow and the hatch could not compress the weatherstrip tight enough. After I tighten the stopper - the leaking was gone. Hope it helps..
