I would'nt, then you'll have to do something about the holes on the qtr panel from the spoiler ends.

Most people don't like the shorty for some reason, but I do and that's all that matters.

Are you referring to a shorty "wing" like this =
Found it at a wrecking yard and took the hole hatch.
I think it goes well with my 2" cowl hood.

This is called a wing. A shorty wing .A spoiler is what the car came with stock.
It was only made for half of a year in "88" than GM went back to a basic spoiler.

When I decided to use the hatch/wing it was pretty much a decision that would be permanent because of new paint coming soon.I already had the 2" cowl hood on so when I placed the hatch on with wing the car immediately jumped out saying ,yes, yes, yes and blended in perfectly. It added to the theme/style of the car I was building.
I don't know how far along you are with your build,"mainly paint".If its new or in very good condition I would not be so worried about drilling holes as I would be filling the ones left over from removing the stock spoiler.

I vote no, and I also have one of these spoilers. I like it, but I don't think it's a good idea to be filling and drilling when there's no need to. That's just asking for problems later if it's not done correctly. Not saying that everything like this is a hackjob, I just know I wouldn't do it because I wouldn't want to worry about things like that.
That's just me, though. If you're comfortable with doing that kind of bodywork correctly then by all means - go for it.
