HOW DO I CHANGE SHIFT *****?

I HAVE A LEATHER GEAR SHIFT **** FO MY '86. I WANT TO INSTALL THIS AND REPLACE THE PLASTIC ONE. HOW DO I START? HOW DO I GET OFF THE PLASTIC BUTTON? WHAT TOOLS DO I USE? HOW IS THE RETAINER CLIP REMOVED WITHOUT DAMAGE OR DO I NEED A NEW CLIP? THANKS

There should be small slit in the front of the sifter handle, ablut halfway down. Either stick a thin screw driver in there and pry out the small staple shaped pin, or you can grab it with small needle nose pliers. Once you pull out this pin, the knbo will slide right off by pulling it up, install the new one and jam the pin back in place.
