Dash light color change

I have changed most of the lights in my car over to red because everything else on the car is red. I hate the yellow on everything on my car...it looks like someone smoked realy heavy and smoke stained everything!!!! I don't know why chev did that? The lights have blown and I want to put in red bulbs. I have had it apart before and found that the bulbs don't come out of the twist in sockets like the older models. I have a whole bunch of the older twist in's that I can put the bulbs in and I was wondering if they are the same size as the factory ones. i would also like to know how bad it will look with the red showing through the yellow. Any comments?

I've done the conversion myself - to red bulbs. You can either use your old sockets if you desolder the bulbs out of them, or you can go to AutoZone and get the individual sockets and never have to mess with it again. The sockets are a 1/2" black size, cost about $1.79 each. I think the p/n is 85058. As far as the appearance goes, the red bulbs will over-ride the yellow on the gauges if it is completely dark. If there is any sunlight, they will still appear yellow, but look like they have a red shadow. Even with the red backlighting, the gauges are very visible...

thanks for the info...I have the sockets out of a scrapped delta 88. I think they are the right size. There is a bigger size for the chev trucks.
