Painting Interior Plastic Parts? Does it look good afterward?

Hi group,

I am about to clean up my interior of my TA. Currently the color is light tan or doe skin. However, i want to go with grey all throught the inside. This will mean a bunch of painting of my panels throughout the car. Is this possible or even practical? Does the painting of plastic work well or even come out looking good? I am nervous about doing it, but will invest the time and money to do it right. Any suggestions or examples pics greatly appreciated!!!

Either the kick panel or the door panel is painted in this picture and the other is stock. I'm not tellin' which!

That is pretty damn nice idea for speakers! Great looking car also! Have you painted anything else in the car?

I changed from red to grey interior.I had all but two grey panels so I had to paint them.It looks good but you have to prep it right or nothing will stick. If you sand at all be careful not to sand away the grain look in the plastic. No paint will match exactly but if your painting all the panels you dont have to worry about that

When my car got repainted the lower plastic panels that run the length of the door jamb broke when they were removed. I hunted a few down in a junk yard and of course they were the wrong color. Washed em up real good and painted them with some interior vinyl dye spray paint out of the Classic Industries catalog. They don't have actual third-gen dye colors, but the 80-81 dark blue matches pretty well with my car. The cans are rather expensive though, $16.95 each. It took a whole can to paint the panels and the misc seat-bolt covers but they look real good. I need to order a few more to finish the job. Hope this helps!

i wounldnt do it, the mickey mouse that had the car befor me decided to paint the rear hatch pannels (around spare tire, locking mechinism for latch, and the other side) Well it looked good when i bought the car, but now it looks like crap, but i live in TX and the sun might be partly to blame, but still, buy new pannels from that one catalog (classic idusties i think)

You can get them to look great, but sun can be a problem especially if you don't prep it right. Follow that like Pooky posted, I told pretty much everything I've done and so far haven't had a problem with flaking or fading.
