re-dye interior trim panels
re-dye interior trim panels
I was wondering if anyone has done this before who can tell me what the best paint is and how to stay away from the fish eyes that the armor all does? What steps to take to do so successfully? and what type of cleaner to use on the plastic panels to get rid of the fish eyes?
Thank-you!
Thank-you!
It was pretty simple. I just scrubbed the panels real good with some 409 and a scrub pad and used the 2 cans of SEM10 Black Interior Paint and 1 can of P102 Bonding Agent from Next Generation Parts:

Came out perfect.

In that post I said to use duplicolor vynl/fabric paint, but if I remember right it usually only comes in tan, grey, flat and gloss black. If you want any other color you should use another brand like those from nextgen. They have about every stock color for thirdgens. I'm using duplicolor's high gloss black and it looks killer. Never need armorall, I just dust and it shines. Maybe some day I'll go over it with a damp sponge to get rid of oil from fingers, but other than that no real maintanence is needed.
Thanx Everybody! I was wondering if u guys know if wal-mart or a canadian tire would carry such products such as the bonding agent and the vinyl paint? and if it necessary to prime the panels before paint or just use bonding agent and then paint over that?
also if rubbing alcohol actually helps wash off all wax and grease off the panels?
can u guys list the best products to use for paint and primer and bonding agent that Wal-mart might carry?

Im in the process of changing mine... but I am very reluctant to paint the plastic, has anyone had it fad?

I got a set of black plastics from www.thirdgenparts.com . The sill plates and kick panels had a few scuffs on them, so I painted them black. I got 2 cans of MarHyde vinyl paint. I scrubbed the parts down with simple green, and sprayed em. It was a perfect match. It really cleaned up the parts. I dont know about the durability yet, though, its only been on for about a week.

Anybody know if that "bonding agent" is available at local stores like Wal-Mart, Lowe's, Home Depot, etc.? Or is it to be had only thru NextGenResource? Maybe a paint store?
It looks like I'm gonna have to get the paint and do my seatbelt receivers, since there seems to be none anywhere to be had in the color I need...

I would think a hardware store would have it. Pepboys or Autohell might have it.
And I haven't had any problems with it fading and has a nice shine to it, but I use Black Magic to make it shine more.

Z28BOYZ-
The bonding agent I use is called Bulldog, I've only found it in auto paint stores, but I know nextgen carries something similar. The duplicolor can be found at Wal-Mart though.
You shouldn't need to prime them if unless maybe you're going say from black to tan. As for prep, dish soap and a scotch-brite pad should work okay, but if you want to make sure, wipe it with an acetone thinner and let it evaporate before you apply anything else. then wipe it with a tack cloth and apply the adhesion promoter (bonding agent) then the paint. I think you'll like the results.
