Firebird front spoiler replacement???

I've got an 86 standard Firebird and when I bought it, the front spoiler was missing. I understand that this thing actually can have up to a 30* affect on the engine temperature, and I am overheating. Where do I find such a thing? I looked in the Classic Industries catalog, but for all the body/ground effects stuff, they have no idea what years they're for. They have a listing for a front spoiler for Third Gen 'Birds, but then say it's only for 82 to 88 Trans Ams. Now if I remember correctly, the front ends of the 82-83 and 84-90 TAs are COMPLETELY different.

So... Where do I get a front spoiler for an 86 Firebird?

You could try a Formula spoiler from a junkyard or somewhere.

Well, from what I've read here so far is that most junkyard front spoilers tend to be completely messed up, and I would agree with that having seen the way they drop the cars at junkyards (and almost being hit by one).

I bought one for my '85 from a guy who sells them on e-bay,,I dont know if mine is the same as yours but you could check it out and se if he has one for your car.I gave like $60.00 for the 3 piece air dam including hardware. Here is what his ad said....
This is a brand new front wind deflector (into the radiator) for all 83-90 Trans Ams (including GTA and 89 Turbo T/A).Also fits Firebirds with the W62 Aero Package. It is a 3 piece kit from GM,they redesigned it from the original one piece design. These are the black plastic pieces that mount under the front bumper cover and are vital for cooling down these f-bodies.Includes all mounting hardware and instructions.Brand New GM part in unopened box.GM is discontinuing the parts for the 3rd generation F-bodies at an alarming rate,so if you plan on keeping yours get the parts while you still can.I preffer using Paypal or Billpoint but will accept money orders. $10 Shipping to anywhere in the US.

his e-mail address is.. raformula@aol.com

he may sell you one straight out,,Hope this helps..

Contact your GM dealer. I bought a new 3 pc unit for my '88 GTA a year ago for less than $30.

I recently called my GM dealer and they're up to $32. Get it from GM as the ones at the boneyards around here are toast.

12395557 three piece service kit for aero pkg, $20.83 from GM Parts Direct.
10118485 one piece air deflector std. bird 2.5" $15.82
10017673 This one is also a one piece but I'm not sure of the height. It might be the 3.5" one for TA's. But it might be the same as the one above it. It's also $15.82.
Go for the three piece from GMPD. It comes with all the hardware ie nuts, bolts, instructions.

If you are talking about part # 10020322, I think it's in the $20 range also. I ordered two air dams/deflectors, one from GM Parts Direct and one from New GM Parts on the same day for a test. The GMPD part came a day before the New GM parts did. GMPD included all the hardware nuts, bolts and instructions. New GM showed up a day later crammed in a box to small for it so it was deformed. No hardware or instructions, BUT they sent me a t-shirt with their name on it! WOW!
I've tried alot of places, SD, Van Devere, (I used to work there) Pace, Burt Greenwald, (worked there also) NewGM Parts etc., and so far the the best price and service has been with GM Parts Direct. Their initial price is real low but they do charge handling on each part. Still after handling and shipping has been tacked on, they are still cheaper. In fact they beat Dal's price on brake parts by over 40%! So draw your own conclusions and deal with whomever you want, just passing along my experience. FWIW-YMMV.

And as an alternate,

I made a replacement for $5.00. My original was there, but was rolling back at the bottom since some of the mounting brackets were broken. I went to the junk yard and cut about a 3 foot section out of the air dam on a Chevy S-10 pickup. They are easy to get off, all the bolts are on the outside. I just laid it over the existing one and used some 1/4 inch bolts and washers to attach it to the old one. Bolts=free out of tool box, and air dam $5.00. The S-10 type even has small braces on the back side at the bottom.

The part number for the GM replacment for the standard Firebird is 10118485. This is for the long air dam panel that gets ripped off all the time by parking lot ramps Currently about $16 and change from GM parts direct .com.
