Hi all...gfx question
HI all, new to the site. My name is Bryan. Im 26 from michigan, Me and my brother(22) picked this 87 camaro standard up for 700 with only a trans. recently acquired a "free" 350 that we have put into it. exterior is in pretty good shape, only a few spots that we had to work on. interior is ok, but I dont like it. I recently bought it off of my brother to keep it in the family since he was selling it for funds to restore a 1985 k30. So far my plans are to completly redo the interior (thinking all black, but still pondering possiblity of accent colors). finish the exterior (thinking black) and get the engine to a 383 stroker. My brother is the engine guru, but im trying to learn as much as I can about it. Im better at interior work and electrical. im sure its going to be a long costly adventure, but it will be a worthwhile slow process.
One question (of many) that I have is about gfx. I read somewhere that the gfx from the other models will not fit the standard model is this true? I really like the look of the gfx and want to find some for this car or find a way to fit them.
This is how she looks as of today. minus the engine which is on the stand.

You can add the ground effects. Just be sure to get all of the mounting hardware and brackets. The front bumper cover won't take the ground effects, so you will need to get a new front bumper cover. The rear quarter ground effects won't line up with the non-gfx rear bumper cover. So, you can do it, you will need the ground effects, front bumper cover and rear bumper cover.

Re: Hi all...gfx question
thanks for the info, I guess ill check the local junk yards for some good condition bumper covers.
Another quick question, we are taking the car and throwing it on the rotisserie, to fix any rust spots, replace the driver side rocker panel, and tie in the frame. Is there any other upgrades we should do?

Re: Hi all...gfx question
Thanks, yeah ive read as much as I can find on here about adding the gfx. Definatly going to be work but so is the whole project so why not. We are going to rip out the entire interior first and drop the trans for the rotisserie, so i can find the mounting bolts and fab some mounting brackets then.
Thanks for the help

Re: Hi all...gfx question
One thing that I would add to this comment as I've added the '92 style gfx to my '84 is that the cars that come with factory gfx have a support bracket that's permantly mounted to the rocker panels for the gfx to mount to. It order for you to add the side gfx, you will either have to cut this bracket off and mount it to your car or make your own, which is what I did. You also have to completely remove all the interior plastics, door panels and rear seats to get to all the mounting bolts. There's a hidden bolt inside the rear quarter just in front of the rear tires fyi. I won't lie, it's a lot of work to add the gfx to a non-gfx car, but well worth it in the end IMO.

This is the toughest part, what I did on mine was just make my own bracket and welded it to the car. You have to be careful and do some measurements. You want the bracket to be just right, otherwise your GFX will sit too low under the door and look odd. But if it's too high it will rub on the door when it closes.
So before you paint anything, make sure there is no rubbing.

Welcome. I am a GFX guy, but I do like the simple look of your car. To bad your not closer as I have a nice 89 GFX rear bumper cover that I would sell you cheap.

Re: Hi all...gfx question
The cover does not fit in my Jeep, but I'm sure I could use one that it does fit in. The Air port is only about 35 mins from my house so I could do that. The cover I have works for 85-90 GFX. It's just taking up room so let me know. PM me if you ever want it.

Re: Hi all...gfx question
Heads up: the 91-92 GFX panels are different than previous versions.
From the login page, check slice1's 'bird in the 91 Firebird pics, for a good
look at the 91-92 style GFX's.
I'm adding these to my 90 resto project.
Long story short, if you're interested in the 91-92 style, I can probably hook you
up with everything up to the front bumper pieces. PM or personal e-mail me
for all the details.
