Leather Headliner?

Would it be possible to use a big sheet of leather for the headliner? I know it might sound stupid, but it looks real nice (rode in a BMW lately?) How much would a sheet of leather that big cost for a hardtop car? Would the application be any different than headliner material, or would I need to use a differnet glue? Thanks guys!

There's an original idea! I'd love to see something like that in a third gen. Mind you, you'd have to do your sun visor and sail panels in the same, or it would probably look too mismatched, IMHO.

If you could come up with a way to use smaller matched pieces with a nice professionally done seam that may be a cheaper way to go. Might be able to use remnants that way. The problem would be to figure out where the stiched seam would look right and best.

Another idea would be to emboss in a bowtie or Camaro logo into the headliner when you do it.

And i love the idea,

i think it's a great idea, and it would look really good

the sun visors yeah, but i don't know about the sail panels. it would look better, but how well would music travel through the leather sail panels?

The headliner material is so weak you might use very thin leather! the best thing i was always looking for was to reproduce the headliner in fiber or plastik, that would give us the freedom of painting it , employ logo´s and use leather to glue on it !
are there any company´s reproducing them??
the price of one gm is askin for is a shame!
harwood or other company´s should make a mold and i guess i know at least 20 people who need one!

Yeah, doing it in one piece will definately bump up the price. Its tough to get one piece that big, since leather starts out in the shape of a cow. A few seams wouldn't look too bad and should cut down on the cost.

I am already on it, but I am going to take it one step further, I am going to try and replace the dome lamp with an EL panel in the shape of a chevy bowtie, with the border made out of polished aluminum. Maybe 2 pieces with a professional seam would be cheaper, I'll have to look fro some material to work with. Thanks for your help guys. It'll be a while before I do this (depends on the price of the leather), but I'll be sure and post pics when I am done.

BASTARD!!!! Stole My Idea, I was in the process of doing that right now, but my headliner was in so rough of shape I bought the ABS plastic one to cover with the leather. You can get the fake laeather at Wal-Mart for $8 per 2 yards, and that is plently, you might has enough to do the Top of your dorr panels too.
