Poll:How many T/A owners out there have a perfect original rear spoiler?
Anybody,or is that about as rare as a 91 Firehawk
What is the deal with these spoilers? Why do they chip and crack for no apparent reason?I just finished polishing and waxing my car-she looks beautiful, except the damn REAR SPOILER
,which is cracking and chipping on the edges.I keep my car covered during the day,but the drive to and from work in this damn blistering Tampa sun is wreaking havoc on my baby.Every GTA I looked at before I bought my car had a craked and chipped one, except MINE,now its just deteriorating at a rapid pace.Any suggestions on what I can do,besides a new and repainted one,or is that my only choice, and around how much is that?

Just take off the spoiler, I personally think my TA looks better with it off (mine was in pretty good shape when I took it off, only the mounting bolts rusted through
). IF you want it on and concerned with warping buy a Fiberglass one, maybe Year One sells em, not sure of the price.

I just sanded it down and going to treat it with something (some form of rubber insulatetor or protectant) Then apply 1,000,000 coats of primer.

I don't drive a GTA but I have the same spoiler as you do... and yikes. The spoiler just up and gave me a HUGE split on the side about a week ago. Prior to that the paint was flaking off (even after the repaint; but of course it was MAACO so they could've not prepped it right). Even before that though it was showing signs of cracking and warping and paint cracking.
I've since put in an order for a fiberglass one from GTAuto ($375 shipped & primered) to replace it. I don't understand why they used rubber (?) or a similar material for a part that would obviously be exposed to huge amounts of sun/heat and other elemental forces.

The guy who repainted mine said Imron was the only way to go. Tough and flexible enough. It was painted off the car, and we had to manhandle it a bit to reattach it. Still looks great after 3 years.

I had the same problem and tried to refinish it, but polyeurthane doesn't like to be sanded very much. So, I got a spoiler off of a '91, which has abs molded plastic so it won't split and crack and be horrible. It didn't bolt on right, because the '91 was wider. I had to do some fabrication, but it was worth it, plus I took about 40lbs off my rear, and the hatch would actually stay open.
