Another water leak / wet carpet location

Hello all.
Got another puzzler here for you. I just purchased a 91 Z28 and have a small problem with a leak. Left rear footwell carpet is wet, underneath the floor mat. A new driver's side door seal was just installed (around 7/16), and, yes, some work was done on the electric-pulldown hatch, but it was taken back twice to the shop because of the water leak problem, and they said to repair the driver's weatherstip, which is why it was done. It rained last night when I was taking it home. I didn't check the floor before I left (duh), but the entire week it was the weather dry up here. I did use the AC on the way home, but I thought it would leak to the passenger's side rather than back there (is there a duct under the driver's seat?). There are no other leaks in the car, even in around the trunk. Any ideas?
Thanks.

Mine used to get flooded in the same spot-was always a river back there when it rained-had t-tops and it was a 350. when I parted the car there was a huge crack on the floorboard. You know what they say about 350's and t-tops!

Sorry about the lack of complete description:

NO T-tops or convertible; coupe/hardtop
Neither the trunk, rear seats, front seats, or other footwells get wet.
The roof or side panels do not get wet.

I think I am narrowing down the possibilities here to something under the vehicle.

Thanks

Since I am more than intimately aware of the situation let me just say this about your theory. The car did get wet before the 1 & 2nd trips in to get fixed while sitting outside and was not driven. If the problem was in the floorboards then the car would have stayed dry but I noticed the water after a rainfall and not after a drive. The problem I think is on the topside and not the bottom. The day before you came to see the car it rained but the car had not been moved since prior to the thunderstorm. If you recall the carpet was quite wet.

Cheers
Robin

Just a thought:

Have you thought about getting a buddy blast it with a car wash wand or a garden hose while you are inside to see if you can pin-point the where the water is coming in from?

I figure with a cloth or paper towel you should be able to backtrack where the leak is coming from then fix it up.

I was caught in a little rain today at work, and after it had been raining for a while, and the car was sitting in the parking lot, I felt the front of the trunk bump, behind the rear seats, I felt the side trim (flet area), and the seats - they were all dry. But then again, so was the footwell. I did feel underneath the rear seats two days ago, and just like today, it was moist. Any ideas now?

I am thinking there was so much moisture underneath the rear seats, that the water ran down to the floorpan. I don't know why you would be feeling under there, but anybody else have a similar problem?

A longshot, but if the hatch has been replaced or removed for some reason, the bolts which hold the hinge to the body may not be sealed up and allowing a place for water to enter. It will then run down inside the plastic panels till it hits the floor.
