How to attack a golf club dent...
So 3 days ago a random person decided to smack my hood with a golf club. I might have a shop fix it if it isn't worth the effort ($250 for insurance deductible). How difficult would this be to diy fix? There is a hood support directly behind it but could I pop this type of dent back out clean? Would it be plausible to touch up the paint with rattle can factory match paint and clear?
Thanks for any input, here's the damage

WTF!??!
Don't know what it'll cost, probably use a " stud welder " or whatever its called--
Weld some " studs " in the dent & pull out with slide hammer, grind off the studs,
fill, smooth, paint.

I will agree that a stud welder and slide hammer can fix this, You can get a cheep stud welder at harbor freight real cheap, when doing this start on the outer edge of the dent and work your way around to the middle, use light pulls slowly working the dent out.

Metal is stretched already. You'll need to shrink that or have a large high spot to try and repair. Stud gun should have a heat tip with it to help shrink it. Shrinking hammer might work if you could get behind it.

Thanks for the suggestions. If a stug gun is the best way to get it done right I might have a shop do it since I have no experience doing that. I got an estimate for 300 to fix and paint the whole hood from a good shop.

A body guy I know told me that he sometimes removes small hood dents by heating them and dropping ice on them. Supposedly that shrinks the metal back into shape. I've never tried it myself.

ok maybe I'll try that if i can find dry ice. I don't think it could hurt since the paints already gone. That would be very "cool" if it worked.

I got $2 dry ice from walmart and tried it out a few times. It did well... something. But nowhere near fixed. Interesting idea though.

I agree!
I'd be interested in seeing the before and after results with the dry ice trick. I've heard about it and wondered how it would work on some small hail dents I have.
I'd also be interested in hearing the "tiger woods" story too.

For $250, I would let a shop repair it. Thats a nasty dent. You probably have the hood liner in it, but the back side is (probably) damged as well. As Whitegold88 stated, some shrinking is in order.

Personally, I'd probably get a used hood and have it resprayed but if you really want to fix it just pay the shop. A minimum, it needs to be pulled, hammered, filled, sanded and painted.
