Paint Colour Help

I want to paint my car black with a hint of red that is visible in sunlight and would like some advice on how to paint it that way. Does anybody know of a colour code for this?

Some advice that I have already received are:
Paint black then mix in some red with the clearcoat
Try find a colour on the internet (I have had no luck so far)

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Yeah, its a little too bright red for my taste. I'm looking for a very dark red that looks more like a black. Also I don't want it to be metallic.

Re: Paint Colour Help

While you're looking for the answer to the question here you could also start calling around to find a shop that will do a complete prep. and paint. They can be hard to find and when you do find one they want top dollar and some times months to do it. That's why I say start looking now and try to build some kind of rapport with them.

Also it sounds like you're looking for a custom"color" base/clear. Unless you're extremely talented concerning prep and paint and doing it yourself you better have DEEEEP pockets.

Re: Paint Colour Help

Thanks, but I work in a custom sleeper shop for semis and we do bodywork, prep and paint there. So really the only thing that I won't be able to do myself is mixing up the correct (probably custom) paint.

That's great news. My comments were not meant to discourage but to shed some light on some of the obstacles that can be in our way concerning that grade of paint job. But obstacles are meant to be overcome with perseverance .I would love to see a thread showing your progress. Kind of a prep to paint thread.

Re: Paint Colour Help

Base black
Mix this with an intercoat clear. A couple very light coats. Keep mottling to a minimum.
Then clear.

Re: Paint Colour Help

So I was rummaging around in an old filing cabinet at my work and I found an old book of paint chips, after some searching I found exactly the colour that I wanted. Its 1970 Chrysler Deep Plum.
In a few days I'll start posting pictures of the prep and paint process.
