82 TTop Trim

Hello All,

My 82TA had trim surrounding the 3 inner edges of the glass ttops. My 87TA does not have this trim. Most of the trim on the 82 is fine, however, one of the edges is damanged and needs to be replaced. Are these piece reproduced? What have others done that have this style of Ttop during restoration?

Here is a picture, a bit tough to see, but if you look closely you can see the tirm on the edges of the glass

Thank you in advance.

Re: 82 TTop Trim

Which year t-tops is this is a picture of? I don't know if they changed over the years, but I know my 91 has much larger trim pieces on the outer edge than the picture you show. I know these pieces are available for my 91, and are usually included in the more complete t-top weatherstripping kits. From the dealer, I think they retail for about $80/side for just the trim piece with the small piece of weatherstripping attached to the edge.

If you are talking about the plastic trim pieces that go along all 3 edges, I don't believe anybody is making these. I have an '82 TA and was looking for the same thing. There are 3 separate part numbers front, rear, and center. I don't know how long they made these so you will probably have to look at the junkyard.

Re: 82 TTop Trim

T-Tops from '82-early '85 used the plastic trim around the edges. The center T-bar on the body is also specific to the style of roof hatches. Long been discontinued by GM. When I did a parts locator at least five years ago there were only a couple pieces left in dealer stock and not enough to do even one hatch.

Been a while so bringing this back from the dead... Anyone know if these pieces have gone into the reproduction world yet by any chance?

Re: 82 TTop Trim

Weird, always thought it was dumb that my '91 had bare glass on the edges so that you burn the crap out of your hands when taking them off on hot days, and also are forced to get fingerprints on the glass if you want to hold it from more than one edge. Even the '78 Corvettes had rubber trim on the edges. I had no idea that early 3rd gen's had these too, makes me wonder why they got rid of them.

Nice of GM to ensure that no one can replace them now too. I'm not the least bit surprised though.

It's cheaper to not have them. That's all the reason they need.

Yeah, makes sense. Also they get to sell more t-tops from people dropping them from getting burned when they touch them.
