Sealent for fenderwell seams?

What did GM use? Mine's peeling off as you can see in the picture. I want to fill the seams back in before I paint the fenderwells.

I'm not sure what GM used, but I know what I would recommend.
Get POR15 (it's an undercoating material). I used that on my floor pans. It's guarenteed never to chip off or rust (and it's EASY to use). I also sprayed rubberized undercoating from K-Mart on top of the POR15 (sound deadner).

Look up http://www.por15.com/. It's great stuff.

If you're talkig about the hard crap they put on the weld/frame joints (?), you'll more than likely need to pick it up at a paint supply store. The stuff I have is made by Dynatron (It think, it's at my buds house right now so I can't check), it's just called body seam sealer though. They will know what you want, I like to buy the stuff that stays a little flexible so it doesn't have as much desire to chunk off from temp. differences over the years.

POR15 is mailorder or from a paint supplier.... It goes on like a paint or a primer.

This is NOT a seam sealer, it is a TRUE rust preventative.

The sealant in mine was dried out and peeling off. There was also some surface rust under the undercoating. Here's what I did.

1.) Grind, sand, chemically strip all old sealant, rust, peeling paint and undercoating.

2.) Treat any rust with POR-15. If there is no rust, then use rust resistant primer.

3.) Paint with rust-resistant paint. Rustoleum works well.

4.) Seal seams with marine window caulk.(Found it at Advance Auto Parts).

5.) Undercoat with flexible rubber undercoating.

This should give you a durable, rust-resistant coating that looks as good as it did when it was new.

The place you are showing in the picture doesn't get any sealant from the factory. It's just a piece of plastic graunched onto there with those little push-in plastic fasteners like that one that some totally lazy "painter" (I use the word loosely) covered with red paint. It's meant to be removeable, like, for example, when the fender gets painted.

If the gap bothers you, you'll probably need to replace it.

He is talking about the inner part of the fenderwell where the black caulking is coming off in chunks.
