Does '85 have a mech 145 speedo? Drew? Anybody?

If so, is it a direct replacement for my ride? I'm talking about the speedo alone. But also does the whole cluster swap?

It won't match. The 85 was mechanical but they're styled like the same as a 92. The entire guage and bezel system changed for 85... you would probably have to swap the entire dash.

I have pictures of my Formula's guages. An 85 Trans Am would have the same style guages and bezel.

To add I don't think a 145mph speedo was available in 85. I think 85 was the limit for 85. I'll know for sure when I get home, but I'm 99% positive.

Karps right, 85mph was the max available for 85. I don't know why I missed that.

Hey guys,
I've got sort of the same question but involving camaros. Does anybody know when the speedos switched from mechanical to electric, and was there a mechanical 145mph speedometer? And when (if at all) did the styling of camaro gauges change? Sorry for all the sort of duplicate questions. Oh yeah, would firebird gauges (individually, not the cluster) fit in a camaro?

the guages for an 85 are actually the same as 84 the only difference in 85 they changed the bezel and the dash and consol it self. but the guages will drop in , Iv converted an 82 firebird with 85 guages and ground effects

For the Camaro's the guages from 82-89 are all cable driven speedo's and all should be interchangable. The dash changed in 90.

I'd argue that the 85 guages are different than the 84 guages but its not worth the effort, believe whoever you feel is correct, or find out for yourself and post the correct info.

The reason that I asked about '85, is 'cause in another post that Drew replied to, was a statement that said that '85 had a 145 mph speedo. Thank you everybody.

Don't forget that some Berlinettas had the digital gauges with electro speedometers, too. I think 82-84?
