1982 Indy Pace Car Emblems and Hatch
1982 Indy Pace Car Emblems and Hatch
I have an 1982 Pace Car that im trying to restore. Can somebody confirm or post pics of the original emblems on the exterior of the car. I would appreciate that!
Also my hatch seems like there is something missing or its different. At the top it shows metal where the hatch opens and closes at the top. Is that the norm? I thought that it was just the 2 black rubber pieces.

Maybe you should check out Phoenix Graphics, they probably have what your looking for.
Re: 1982 Indy Pace Car Emblems and Hatch
They do not carry the emblems from what I understand. Ive looked before and just look again. Im not sure they are different from the other Z28's. I just want to make sure if they are or not and what exact color they are.

Your hatch is off a later model camaro that had the hatch mounted
brakelight. That one has been removed.
So I can guess your hatch glass has been replaced at some point.

YUP...........That third brake light deal was started in 85? or 86? cars.
Later they put it down in the spoiler. You can't remove the mount
from the window because there is 2 holes in the glass.
You could swap the glass BUT the tail and spoiler along with the glass is bonded into one piece. They can be separated but it is a
nightmare to seperate them! If you find a earlier glass and tail
unit it will be have to be painted to match.
A lot of hassle for a daily driver...............

Holy crap guys. Please read the post of what he's looking for and also look at the pics.
The car had aftermarket rear window louvers on it. The hatch screws needed to be removed to install the mount kit and it was just easier to remove the louvers and leave the hardware. Be careful when removing and reinstalling the hatch screws. If you overtighten, you can easily shatter the glass.
The emblems you are looking for will be the tri red emblems. The rear emblem will not have a bowtie, it will just say Z28.
The pic below is not the color you need, but you can see that the rear emblem doesn't have the bowtie.

Thank you so much! That is exactly what I was trying to ask when it pertains to the emblems. I figured it was that style but wanted to make sure and be sure on the color! I appreciate that very much!
As for the hatch, what your saying is, is that i can remove those pieces in the picture? So I dont actually have to get another hatch?
Thanks again for clarification and understanding what I was asking.
Re: 1982 Indy Pace Car Emblems and Hatch
Yes, you can remove those. My suggestion would be loosen one side only. It's possible that they are slotted and slit up under the bolt, then tightened. Also, if you can, get a measurement of the top of the glass to the body if you do have to remove the mounting bolts. This way you can get it back to where it is now. As long as "now" is correct!!
