One way I've done it before (at the risk of a broken nose) is to reach around behind the the wheel and smack it with both hands. (Toward your face.) The wheel needs to come off straight. Good luck

What kind of bolts were you using? Can you get the old ones out and then try again with stronger bolts like Grade 8 bolts?

You may have to get the broken bolts out. There are special drill bits you can use to pull them out, or you can drill them out and retap them. I don't think drilling them out and retapping will hold up to a steering wheel puller though. If everything else fails you might have to cut the wheel it self off. You could probably do this without damaging anything else with the right type of saw. If you can manage this without damaging the grooved part of the column you can just get another wheel.

I broke my puller too. I just took the nut off and smacked the bolt with a hammer a cpl times. Popped right off. Be carefull though. Dont want any broken speedos.

One thing I've tried before and it worked.
Loosen the steering wheel nut and back it off untill you reach the end of the shaft.
Leave the nut flush with the shaft so that when you use a brass hammer or piece of brass stock you dont mess up the threads on the shaft. Get someone to pull straight back on the wheel while you tap the shaft.
Sometimes the impact while pulling back on the wheel will jarr it loose.

Also whenever you use a wheel puller tap the center of the puller as you try to pull the wheel . The vibration helps to work the wheel off . And will keep you fromm ringing the bolts off.
