Finally stripped and painted my engine bay

While being furloughed for the Goverment shut down I decided to go ahead and strip the engine bay in my 89 IROC and get it ready for my LSX swap. It turned out better than I expected, especially since this was the first time I've ever used a HVLP paint gun and have little experience doing this sort of thing. The color is Performance Red, its a brighter red than the factory red but I wanted the car to pop. And it does... pics below...

And I've started installing everything again. Slow process as I've been cleaning and painting what needs it. Turning out nice though...

That looks great! Keep posting pictures as you go. I'd really like to see it when it's finished.

Thanks! I'll definitely keep posting pics of the progress. Hopefully the LSX swap will be finished this winter. I ordered my LS1 Spohn mounts from Hawks yesterday, got a long list of parts I need. ha ha... its a money pit. Last year I spent several thousand on UMI suspension goodies, Koni struts and shocks, Etc.. This was my first car though so its worth it.

Re: Finally stripped and painted my engine bay

I installed the headlight bar and airbox. Decided to paint the headlight bar black, this one actually came off of my 87 Camaro since I broke my IROC's fiberglass bar by accident. Oh well... For the A/C box I didn't like how faded it looked, so I used some Graphite paint and shot it. Turned out great... my LS6 intake is painted the same color so it'll match. For the headlight harness I just used some mineral spirits and cleaned it up, re-wrapped electrical tape on a few spots then sprayed armor all over the wire loom. Looks brand new. I also bought all brand new plastic clips for the airbox and wiring harness loom.

Re: Finally stripped and painted my engine bay

I like the way that A/C heater box looks. That graphite color just sets it off. Good choice!

Re: Finally stripped and painted my engine bay

Thanks for the compliments. I'm very pleased with the way everything is turning out. I installed the headlights, wiper motor and arms, radiator and fans. Got my SS hood cleaned and ready to go to the body shop as well as the spare front bumper cover.
