New hood struts didn't help
New hood struts didn't help
Hey guy,
I just put on a new set of Sachs hood struts and the hood actually falls more than before?
Do they adjust or is there another trick? The hinges don't have springs so I assume the strut does all the holding.
Thx

Ya sounds to me like you got a bad set or ones that are too weak to hold the weight. I bought mine off of Rockauto.com and they almost lift the hood on their own. The hatch ones actually do lift it up on their own!
Re: New hood struts didn't help
I went with the Sachs specifially cuz I was prepared to pay a bit extra for quality.
I'll reach out to the vendor (off ebay
) and hope they send me another set.
Thx boys, I just didn't know if there was a trick or anything.

Re: New hood struts didn't help
This is a Sachs part number I got from Orielly's for the correct steel hood lift supports.... SG430001 fits 82-92. I think you got some used/bad ones.

If They Are The Correct One's They Would Have Plenty Of Pressure To Hold Up The Hood,They Don't Adjust.

Re: New hood struts didn't help
I got mine from autozone and put them on the car in the parking lot for the vary same reason...
they have more than 1 part number, it sounds like you have the ones that are for the fiberglass 82-83 hood. They are physically identical. I tried both sets, one would not hold the hood up and the other lifted the hood buy themselves.
