I never much liked those inserts, either. It's easiest just to paint them. I saw one guy who had drilled a million holes into his bumper through the inserts for some ram air thing he was doing, but it looked pretty hack.

you may want to try and find a nose from a 90-92 at a junkyard, as they don't have the inserts unless it's from a Formula, but those inserts don't look as cheezy.

I have those crap black plastic things too and I don't really like them. I've been toying with the idea of replacing them with some wire mesh and perhaps putting some foglights behind them.

Does anybody know how to remove them ? Do you have to remove the front nose before these things can be removed ?

Yeah you have to take off the nose. My car is black, so I painted them silver, along with the door trim. Looks pretty good.

Black on black doesn't look too bad, but I know what you mean. If you want to get rid of them, it's time to get out the fiberglass. Make your own vents.

Thats funny, I actually like the little black bumpers... hehe, its funny how different people like different things.

I think they really look good with a yellow car. Personally the 91 & 92 bumpers never did anything for me, Always thought it looked like a beek.

As for making them into functional Ram air, you might be shocked to find an "egg-crate" rubber inner bumper then a steel bumper behind that. It might be possible if you some how duct your air thru the rubber inner bumper.

I really do not like those black things myself either.
I am going to find a body shop that will remove them and make a piece that will go in there flush with the front bumper cover.
for the rear i just got a 84 Firebird rear bumper cover ( no ugly black things)

The standard Firebird 82-84 front bumpers have grills in them. I always thought they looked much better than the 85-90 "bumprettes".

Wire mesh could look good, sort of like on the corvette Z06.

i never thought about modding the front bumperettes, although a very interesting idea. hmmmmmmmmmm, maybe somewhat similar to a corvette as mentioned previously.

great concept, but a ton of work...
