Removal Of Old Window Tint

Does anyone know of a way other than a razor blade to get old cracking tint? Having problems, with rear hatch window. Don't want to mess up the defrost strips on the window. Are there any products out their?

Yes, in fact i just got some a few days ago at AutoZone, called Gila Winow Film Remover. havne't tried it yet, but says all u do is spray it on, let it set half an hour and peel off the tint.

I wish I had that few weeks ago. I took off the old tint on the side windows from a previous owner. I used a spray adhesive remover and it was taking forever. I speeded things up a little by using a plastic scotch-brite pad. Worked great at taking off the adhesive but left little scratches on the window. Over a 1/2 hour of work with plexiglas scratch remover got them out. So much for saving time:confused

WD-40 worked for me. I hope you like the smell because it lingers.

I've personally done this, so I'll vouch for it.

Alright, there's a much better way to do this. Go and get a bottle of amonia and some masks. Put the ammonia in a spray bottle, it makes it easier. Also get a black trash bag. Park car in direct sun. Put the ammonia on the tint and then take the black trash bag (cut it and make it like a big sheet) and press it against the glass. Use some tape or something to keep the sack against the glass. This will keep the ammonia on the tint- disolving the glue(that's why they tell you not to use ammonia based cleaners on tint). Wait about an hour and just go out and pull it off. It normally comes off in 1 sheet and no using the blade is necessary.

I also recommend an allergen mask to keep the vapors of the ammonia from killing you.

the rear hatch is easy with a buddy. I simply remove the hatch, turn it upside down on a table with some towels on it and after pealing the tint off I take a little laquer thinner to the gummi stuff. wipe it on & it will come right off with paper towels.

I also have some stuff called quick-N-kleen that will disolve the stickum really well. It is gentle enough for plastic, but it removes everything.

With the hatch off is a good time to paint that metal strip around the edge.

I just use windex and a green scrub pad. Just do a 12x12 section at a time and let it sit for about a minute and it's a piece of cake.
