Convertible Leaks!

Ok, today it rained,er.. poured like crazy. My car unfortunately has to stay outside, so when ever there are heavy rains, I get a nice wet interior. It looks like the water is not really leaking around the weather stripping, but it is actually soaking through the top. It seems to get in around the bows and then runs along the headliner to the edges where it drips all over my back seat and rear panels. I also get water on the door panels down front near the kick panels, how I don't know. My car has an aftermarket top, its crap and it doesn't fit very well. Is their any way to make the top more water repellent? Also, I can actually feel inside the car by slipping my hand under the top above the side windows, this isn't normal is it? Can anybody post some pics of a real ASC or at least a nice aftermarket top. I seem to remember somebody sells left over ASC tops and weather stripping, how much are they and where can I contact them?

You might be able to seriously Scotch Guard the top. Use a can or two on it and it couldn't hurt is my guess.
As for the rest..ummm, nope.

You can buy it at like any hardware or drug store or someplace like that. We use it to waterproof ski jackets and such.

I have learned the hard way . Factory tops are so much more expensive for a reason I have a aftermarket top on my 95 trans am now . It will be getting replaced with a factory top as with the aftermarket one , no one can get it to stop leaking everywhere because it really doesnt fit right .

Good luck

Found some Scotch Guard, it wasn't easy. 3M isn't making it anymore ( thank the EPA ). Hopefully this will help, I also bought a car cover if all else fails.

Do a little investigation, there are chemicals you can buy other than scotchguard that will seal the top.

Look for Tent waterproofing spray or brush-on. Go to a sports store that sales hi-end tents like REI etc. They will have it.
