I know how you feel, I'm willing to do a little work to get a mitsu 3000gt climate control system(the digital one) in my car. Nobody really responds to the questions, though. I suppose it would be a matter of splicing the wiring.

I would like to do something like this too. I'm afraid it will probably be a bit more involved than splicing wires. I bet you need to use the heaterbox and everything. Most AC compressors are pretty similar though, I think. Most that I have seen have 2 or 3 wires going to them.

I have thought about this, and if you really want to know HOW to do it, find a car, any car with the climate control you want. Then look up in the service manual, there should be everything you need to know, where it is, how it plugs in etc.

I KNOW for a fact that my 90 Riv has either servos or little motors controlling the doors. So that will be something you have to install.

I never drive my car when it is too hot or too cold anyway so I have just left mine alone.

I don't think so. I believe(correct me if I am wrong)that third gen a/c is cable driven. I think fourth gen is more electronic. I've been checking this out, and it would make more sense to adapt the entire a/c system from whatever vehicle you'd like and retrofit it to our cars. That said, it's probably not cost effective, but sweet as hell. I really don't like my a/c controls. Anyone have any technical know-how for this?

YUP EVEN ON MY GTA IT HAS PUSH BUTTON AC BUT STILL HAS CABLE ON IT OPENS AND SHUTS VIA VACUUM. I HAVE LOOKED AT IT ALREADY. AS FAR AS SWITCHING IT LOOK TO SEE IF THE BACKS ARE THE SAME IF SO YOU MIGHT BE ABLE TO SPLICE IT IN GOOD LUCK.

The climate controlls in the thirdgen's are controlled by a combination of cable, vacuum and electric.

A cable controlls the temp setting

A series of vacuum tubes and gates control the redirect of the air and a/c vs. heat, etc...

A electric switch controlls fan speed.

I have looked at converting a 4th gen climate control and you would honestly need the entire heater core from the 4th gen to get it to work properly...I have yet to find a suitable alternative to what is already in our cars...although I would absolutely love to install a fully digital climate control setup.

here is what chiltons says on this issue:
The 1982-92 model vehicles covered in this manual use an R-12 refrigerant Air Conditioning (A/C) system. The Cycling Clutch Orifice Tube (CCOT) includes the compressor, condensor, evaporator, an accumulator/drier (with fixed orifice tube), and a clutch cycling switch (with or without a temperature probing capilliary tube to maintain a selected comfortable temperature within the vehicle, while preventing evaporator freeze-up). Full control of the system is maintained through the use of a selector control, mounted in the dash assembly. The selector control makes use of a vacuum supply and electrical switches to operate mode doors and the blower motor. A sight glass is not used in this system and one should not be installed. When charging this system, the correct quantity of refrigerant must be installed to obtain maximum system performance.

If anyone has some great ideas for rigging this up, now's the time. There's got to be some hot-rodding or ***** trick to this.

probably not without swapping the entire system. It's not a matter of heat, it's a matter of how your a/c system controls the vents.

Well, 2 out of 3 of the controls would be very easy to swap...the cable driven temp selector and the electronic fan control would be a breeze.

Need to find someone who has a vacuum gate system that can be controlled remotely rather than having it directly attached to the slider itself.

Carl

You can use the set up from a third gen GTA. But you're looking at alot of work. You'll have to have the entire heater box with wiring and controls. I'm in the process of parting one out now.
