Fresh Paint

I painted my car this afternoon... The colour is nice and even, no drips runs or specs, but it's almost completely dull. I plan on doing the whole colour sanding and buffing trip, but shouldn't there be at least some reflection in the paint now??
(it's not flat, you just can't see any images in the finish)

I don't think you'll see any shine until you polish ...

stupid question, but is it just paint or did you clearcoat? Sand and polish either way. By the way, I love the name.

Does the surface look like an orange peel or like semi-gloss paint? Was the paint shiny when first put on then go dull?

That is common with most 1-stage, and 2-stage paints. When i painted my s10 with 1 stage acryilic (spelling) It is bright and shiny until it dries. Once it dried, i wetsanded and buffed and it was alot more reflective. I wasn't happy with it though so i went ahead and put 3 coats of clear on it and it really brought it out. The paint was so clear i could almost see right through it.

yea, it went on shiny and then turned dull.

It's a one stage paint. The paint (Ocean Blue Metallic) needs 4 coats, one dust coat (did that), two heavy coats (only got one done then i ran out of paint... didn't plan my material purchasses very well) and a final dust coat to even out the metalic (it looks even now, but i'll follow dirrections)

I'll finish shooting on monday, with help from a pro (my auto teacher's father) and

i'll see if i can borrow my buddies camera to get you guys some pics

LOL, even tho it looks kinda crappy to me, the gr 11 manufacturing students all think it's a "phat" (direct quote ) blue. One guy even said he'd give me 4 g's for it the day it's finished cause he's always wanted a 'sick muscle car'... lol, i'll sell it to him, and show up at school the next day in my new '84....
5.7L vs 2.8L.... we'll see which is the 'sick muscle car' lol

Prepare to be educated

I did some touch up work on a Suburban last year and the guy supplied the paint. Went on really nice and shiny then went to a dull oxidized look. Found out that it was suppose to be used as a base coat clear coat system Gathered up some left over clear from painting another project earlier in the day then finished off the Suburban

Just to let you guys who were asking about my paint.... i screwed up, kit's not ocean blue metallic, it's midnight ble metallic. I had a pro come and watch what i was doing, and he said after i had dusted the colour on, and was going for the second coat, i simply wasn't putting enouogh paint on. It wasn't wet enough to flow out glass smooth (that coupled with the fact i only had two of the recommended 4 coats on )
