hey i just need some help on how to remove the rear spoiler for a repaint its on a 1991 t/a gta its the stock wrap around spoiler

 

Remove the trim from inside hatch area, should be 4 bolts to hold the base down, once they are out slide the spoiler forward to get them unhooked

 

Remove the black caps from under the hatch,right at were the spoiler rear is,then remove the bolts that secure the spoiler to the hatch,after their out,push the spoiler forward and that will allow the spoiler to be lifted off the hatch,Your going to have to unplug the 3rd brake light also.That's how I removed mine off a 86 TA.Be careful with the side clips!!!!!

thanks a lot guys great info!. right when this snow clears up ill be taking it off to be freshened up for the shows this season!

 

Treat it like it is made of eggshells once it is off.
The material these are made out of does not seem to age well, and is pretty fragile.
Replacements are $$$$$.

 

Save yourself time, money and aggravation screwing around removing that
spoiler ! They are extremely fragile, the bolt studs usually rip out and if you
break one of those clips your in DEEP do-do!

Its best to re-finish it on the car IMO !!!!!!

 

I normally agree with this type of advice.
But it sounds like the OP is working toward a show worthy finish. There is no way to get proper coverage on the underside of the wing, or the decklid without removing it.

 

yeah all i hear is how fragile they are and i mean its not in bad shape at all its really just one small spot that is bubbled up and the paint is a tad bit dull compared to the body paint and thats still the original paint that still looks great. so maybe ill just leave it but at least i know how to take it off now if it ever truly needs to come off. thanks again guys
