PPG Delfleet?

Was going to the different jobbers yesterday looking at "value" based paint lines.
One of them suggested Delfleet from PPG. It's used on the tractor trailers, and is what a few of the manufacturers use as their paint.
I'm going for just gloss black. No metallics, no pearls, just gloss black.

The price point can't be beat, I hear that it covers really well and the shine is pretty good.

Has anyone used this? How about doing a cut and buff after? Apparently it sets up rock hard and doesn't polish out easily if you don't get to it in the right time frame.

Check out Limco deluxe made by BASF iirc.
Its a single stage paint. It was $65 a gal. last time i bought it.

I used 2 gal. of appliance white to shoot my old Caddy Fleetwood 75 limo.
Sprayed out good, shined great for several years till I sold the car.

Re: PPG Delfleet?

I was looking at the Limco stuff online, but there are a lot of complaints that it doesn't cover very well, especially black. And since that's what I'm painting, I'm looking at something else.

Thx for the PM dave, I have to sign in to the other forum to check out that thread, but I will check it out.

All I can say is I went from midnite blue to white on my Caddy and it was
done in ONE coat !!!!!!
Covered excellent over the dark blue paint.
It was a quickie "mop and glow" job and with only a DA sanding and wipe
down before shooting.

I am the "painter" lol.
I decided for this paint job I'm going to prep the car and bring it in to Maaco for single stage.
This isn't the final paint job for the car, this is my opportunity to fix the couple areas of corrosion (bottom of A pillars is a tiny bit, and in the rear fender wells between the inner and outer skins). Figure I'll have it looking good for a few years until I can take my time, strip the car bare and then go over it myself... And allow myself some time to do smaller paint projects to get my skills down.

Combined with the fact that setting up a booth, buying a good gun, materials etc etc, I'll have put more money in to it and the painter will be an amateur, where at Maaco the painter will be better than me and it will over all be cheaper.

I'm doing an LS swap in the next month as well... if my parts ever show up, so money is a bit budgeted... I also race motocross on weekends and that is one EXPENSIVE sport lol.

Any hints on my quarter panel rust would be great. There are no holes, it's still solid, but a little bit of the lip of the outer skin of the quarter panel is pushed out from the skin of the wheel well from rust swelling in there.
I was thinking I'll have to cut those areas out and weld in some patches??

Re: PPG Delfleet?

Well, I called maaco to see what paint they use for their single stage jobs... PPG Essentials which is what I was going to use, so I guess we will find out how it goes!
