OE louver hardware dimensions
I am looking for dimensions for the OE rear window louver hardware, more specifically the hardware with the studs that the louver hinges bolt too. I know that finding original hardware is like finding a needle in a haystack so im going to fabricate my own.
Thank

Re: OE louver hardware dimensions
rear window louver, GM parts book calls Sunshade, I just sold a set of the attaching brackets to Big Red, the parts called studs hold the sunshade to the brackets and are listed as part of the sunshade as an assembly, look for posts from a couple of weeks ago, Rubber Ducky seemed to be knowledgeable on the subject as well, look for their posts

Re: OE louver hardware dimensions
If you don't find the info I can try to get some measurements tomorrow. I just purchased some and put them on mine. I won't know the exact bolt stud threading, but that shouldn't be an issue if you make your own. I honestly don't think they would be too difficult to make if you get the proper dimensions.

Re: OE louver hardware dimensions
Alright I couldn't get exactly everything (like the stud length) because I didn't want to take them off completely but I got the majority of them. I didn't measure how high the stud sticks out of the bracket, but its probably 0.5inchs or less. All dimensions are in inches.

Edit: Depending on your window lip, you might want to bend the lip of the bracket so it stays on snug over the window. I didn't have to on mine, but I used double sided exterior molding adhesive on the back side of the bracket so it stayed on snug.

If you dont mind that would be very helpful. Your dimensions seem to be much better than the pictures i was using for the other brackets.

Re: OE louver hardware dimensions
Alright I'll start making them up when I get time to! I probably won't be able to make them this afternoon, but tomorrow I should have time. I potentially will have some made up later this evening though but I have to go eat dinner with my grandma for her birthday.

Re: OE louver hardware dimensions
I'm getting some measurements now and making up some more drawings, I'm also in the process of polishing and painting my wheels so I'm going kinda slow. I should have another drawing or two up today.
I didn't realize that there were 4 types of brackets overall. There are the top two (which are one bracket of the drawing I made yesterday), the bottom two brackets (both the same style), and two different side brackets (4 altogether, two on each side.)
There must be an upper and lower side bracket, but it doesn't appear to matter much because I put the different styles on one side. It will make more sense when I get a drawing up, but I have to go put some spray clear on the wheels now since it's been enough time for my coat to dry.

Re: OE louver hardware dimensions
Here is the bracket for the bottom of the sides. There should be two of these:

As in the note, there is some wierd, "spring" or wire thing that is attached at the bottom (hence the wire with the stars on the top view), on one of my brackets, I used a U-nut long enough to go through the hole and I think that works better.
The program I used is called "GIMP 2". Its a free program and it is almost as functional as Adobe photoshop.
I just used alt print screen with the grid view in the GIMP, then pasted that into paint for some other adjustments.
I have the measurements for the other brackets, I just have to make the drawings! I might be able to get them up later tonight, but if not tomorrow for sure!

yep those are Dsus fasteners. you should be able to get them in black anodized finish, there are 8 brackets total, have photos that I uploaded when I had them on classifieds, but can't figure out how to load into this response, anyway that is the set up for the one piece shade for cars with third brake light in spoiler.

Re: OE louver hardware dimensions
Oh so that's what those are for. Well I wonder if my local hardware store sells those. If not, I may order some online. The U-nut and bolt combo is working perfectly now, but those Dzus fasteners would make it a little quicker to take on and off which would be nice. It may be a little harder to fabricate brackets with those, though, but that link you posted has a perfect set if acdcfan were to go with those. A little bit more pricey though than 6 U-nuts and bolts, but the ease of taking on and off would be nice.
I have the one piece shade without the third brake-light cutout, even though I have a 91 camaro. I'm not sure what louvers acdcfan has, but I would imagine the brackets for the 91-92 louvers would be identical also.

If any of you can find the correct size and finish, that don't cost a fortune, you make some friends by posting the source!

Re: OE louver hardware dimensions
and the crowd applause, didn't think about Jegs or Summit, Speedway has more race fab products than those do as well, Grainger maybe a source as well, I haven't looked up Dzus online, but they should have black anodized finish, that's what we had for access panels on Swift sports 2000 back in the day. I do notice Bubba has the correct locations for the pop rivets that fasten the receiving spring, and dotted line for correct orientation, nicely done

Re: OE louver hardware dimensions
Thank you!
acdcfan, I'm still going to put up the remaining brackets! I've just been a little busy this week with school. I'm in my last year of mechanical engineering and we have a lot of group projects and stuff, but I'm almost done! It's taken me long enough so it will be nice to finally be done.
Anyways, I might be able draw up the remaining two brackets and have them up here tomorrow sometime. You're lucky you have those dzus fastener things! I can fork out 25 bucks to get them online if needed though.
Have you started fabricating the brackets yet? It would be cool to see pictures when you get around to making them. I'll tell you, the louvers keep an incredible amount of heat out of the interior so you'll be glad to have them go up. Plus, they make the car look way cooler too. I would have liked to get the third brake light cut out ones, but I'm happy with the ones I have.

This is single handedly the most comprehensive post I've seen on the rear louvers so far on TGO. Thanks for the drawing and other info Bubbajones_ya! How did your classes turn out? Were you able to finish the other 2 brackets?

I have made all 6 brackets but I am away at school. I will be done in 2 weeks and will see if they fit. I will post pictures of the brackets and the louvers mounted once I get home in 2 weeks.

Re: OE louver hardware dimensions
I just finished this semester and I everything seemed to turn out well! I don't have my grades yet but I'm not worried.
I have not yet had a chance to finish the other two brackets, but I will have time now! Things really picked up for me in school and I just ran out of time.
Anyways, once I get the other two brackets finalized I'll put them up!
