outer window felt replacement need advise
Can outer window felts be replaced without removing the glass? The tension guides on the inside can be loosened up to give a little clearance but the window glass is in the way making access to the screws for the outer felts very difficult. There's gotta be a way. Any suggestions?

Re: outer window felt replacement need advise
Yes it can be. It is not very hard
1.) Roll the window down.
2.) Start by removing the handle (torx screws). Then remove the door latch + manual mirror ...etc part before you pry off the trim. Not all of the 4 screws for each "box" actually hold it on to trim. I think its just the outer ones (don't remember).
3.)VERY IMPORTANT. One tip is when removing the inner "door lock" tab. Pull it up towards you (pry it up with a screw driver) and then pull out to the right. Do not break this part (easily broken as many many MANY people just try to pry it out.)
4.)Then start removing the plastic door panel using the proper tool (or a screw driver if you are skilled with it). Try not to break too many tabs.
5.) Once the door panel is removed, you can now remove the outer door felt. There are screws at the bottom holding them on.
I am glad someone taught me this. I guarentee many people have broken the door lock tab if you don't know this.

Re: outer window felt replacement need advise
Ok thanks everyone. The video showed me that someone has had my door apart before and substituted Phillips head screws for the 7mm hex head screws. That's why I couldn't see how to get access. Anyway, my door is COMPLETELY apart now so access is not a problem. I'm going to replace the screws so next time it won't be an issue. BTW all I started out to do was replace 1 roller on the bottom of the window glass and it snowballed into a full blown project. lol.

The Phillips Head Screws Are Factory,Mine Had Them ,The Door That Guy Is Working On In The Vid Was Taken Apart Before,You Can Tell By How The Door Panel Just Falls Away From The Top Moulding ,It Shoulsd Be Attached To It,Who Ever Took It Apart Before Added The Hex Heads. I Got My Phillips Screws Out Using An Offset Screwdriver And Reused Them.

Re: outer window felt replacement need advise
Well I put hex heads back in at the 3rd, 4th & 5th hole from the hinge. The ones blocked by the window. That way I can get them out for sure when it comes time to paint without having to remove the window again.
