T top install question
T top install question
I was curious. I have a 89 rs. Just wondering if you can put a t top in it. It has a solid roof now. T top or sun roof would be a good look for it. Just wondering if possible and what's involved. Thanks guys.

Re: T top install question
Yes it can be done with enough time and money. You'd have to find a donor t-top car and cut the roof off and replace yours with it. At the point that you've done that though you might as well have bought the donor car and just swapped all your parts on to it.

Better to just find a 'roller' car than go through all the headache of fitting your car with one. Third gen T/A's are cheap to get. Find a donor and do what was mentioned above.

Where are you located? I'm fixing to send a T top third gen shell to the crusher. If you are local I would be willing to cut the roof off. $100 for the roof, $150 for the T top glass, $75 for the T bar

I'm in Georgia and shipping would not be worth it, but I'm sure if you want T tops that bad you could post on here and on craigslist wanted T top roof for 82-92 camaro/firebird you would find someone willing to sell you one.

Re: T top install question
If you that desperate to carve up your car and invest the time
to a DIY t-top install I guess the easiest would be to find a
complete cam/bird with a C&C top setup.
Then remove the C&C top assembly and install into your car
as the C&C was just a complete frame riveted into a cut out
section of the roof area.
The Fisher tops were engineered in the roof section during
the cars initial build and would be difficult to replicate now.

Re: T top install question
Just buy a T-top car, they are affordable. If you love the one you have and can't part with it, just become a 2-F-body owner. I'm one of those people who HATES the looks of sunroofs on f-bodies. (yes, I've owned other cars with them) Just doesn't look right on the f-body, regardless of generation (I also hate those convertible conversions for 2nd gens for the same reason).

Re: T top install question
When these cars were newer, there was a small industry that catered to converting these cars to T Top(A Neighbor of mine had her '84 converted).
Now those companies are gone, and the previous posts have outlined what it will take.
Find a donor car or shell, or just sell the one you have and get what you really want.
